CLINICAL EDUCATION S T . J O S E P H ’ S H O S P I T A L H E A R T I N S T I T U T E Ongoing, multidisciplinary clinical education is integral to achieving and maintaining excellence in clinical outcomes. The Cycle of Clinical Therapeutics – New Model Concept Outcomes St. Joseph’s Hospital Heart Institute offers opportunities for physicians (and clinical staff) to regularly review cases and to discuss relevant clinical topics. Cardiovascular Conference Xavier E. Prida, M.D., FACC Medical Director, Continuing Education and Quality Outcomes Dr. Prida received his B.S. from the University of Florida and his M.D. from the University of Miami. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and fellowship training in cardiology at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. Dr. Prida is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is also certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners. He joined St. Joseph's Hospital medical staff in 1987. Clinical Trials Education and Feedback Performance Measures Guidelines Quality Indicators St. Joseph's Hospital Heart Institute's Cardiovascular Conference offers both didactic material and patient case studies. Topics are chosen based on specific clinical interest and incorporate case 22
eviews where appropriate. Diagnosis and management of the highlighted clinical problems are discussed with respect to evidence-based guidelines, up-to-date publications and related institutional performance measures and outcomes data. Case studies and didactic material are presented by the program moderator/instructor, Dr. Prida. Morbidity and Mortality Conference The Morbidity and Mortality Conference serves as a venue for discussion of adverse outcomes and medical errors. Recommendations generated during this discussion become part of the quality improvement and educational initiatives within the institution. Visiting Professorships St. Joseph's Hospital Heart Institute's Visiting Professorship Lecture Series provides for nationally recognized thought leaders in cardiovascular disease to import the newest information for integration into local, clinical practice.
