Wichita Falls Honors Gunns<br />

Robert D. “Bob” Gunn<br />

and his wife Carol were<br />

honored jointly as 2012<br />

Wichitan <strong>of</strong> the Year at the<br />

annual Wichita Falls Chamber <strong>of</strong><br />

Commerce and Industry North<br />

Texas Economic Forum and<br />

Wichitan <strong>of</strong> the Year luncheon.<br />

The couple has been called<br />

the “dynamic duo” for their<br />

involvement and devotion to the<br />

city <strong>of</strong> Wichita Falls, serving on numerous<br />

community and non-pr<strong>of</strong>it boards.<br />

Local media outlets covered the story,<br />

and to the surprise <strong>of</strong> no one who knows<br />

them, the Gunns were surprised and<br />

humbled upon receiving the award.<br />

“We dearly love this town,” Bob Gunn<br />

said. “As time was good to me, I was<br />

able to give back.”<br />

Bob Gunn, a past AAPG<br />

president and AAPG Honorary<br />

member, received the Sidney<br />

Powers Memorial Award in 1997<br />

– AAPG’s highest honor – as<br />

well as the AAPG Public Service<br />

Award in 2004 and the DPA<br />

Heritage Award in 2005.<br />

He also is an AAPG<br />

Foundation Trustee Associate<br />

and recipient <strong>of</strong> the 2013 L.<br />

Austin Weeks Memorial Medal – given in<br />

recognition <strong>of</strong> extraordinary philanthropy<br />

and service in advancing the mission <strong>of</strong><br />

the AAPG Foundation.<br />

Gunn will receive the Weeks Medal<br />

during the May 19 opening ceremony<br />

at the AAPG Annual Convention and<br />

Exhibition in Pittsburgh.<br />

Peter “Pete” Rose has been named<br />

recipient <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Petroleum</strong> Group Silver<br />

Medal, the Geological Society <strong>of</strong> London’s<br />

most prestigious award, in recognition <strong>of</strong><br />

“outstanding achievements” over his E&P<br />

career. He’ll receive the award at the Group’s<br />

annual meeting in London, England, in June.<br />

Rose, an Honorary member and past AAPG<br />

president, resides in Austin, Texas.<br />

Joann E. Welton has retired as senior<br />

reservoir quality specialist, ExxonMobil<br />

Upstream Research, Houston. She resides in<br />

Houston.<br />
