towards couples and we are one of the only spas in town that does
the traditional mud bath for couples,” said General Manager, Barry
Stern. Stern explains that a traditional mud bath is a thick
combination of clay, peat moss and hot springs mineral water. “What
we have here is really thick mud,” adds Stern. “Some Calistoga spas
just add water to clay, so it’s more like a liquid. At Golden Haven, you
will enjoy the traditional mud bath that is world famous.” Stern says
that the peat moss gives thickness and buoyancy to the mud “So you
are floating, which makes it
relaxing, it sooths your muscles
and takes out toxins.” Stern says
it’s fun too, because you can take
a mud bath together in a private
room for two. The mud bath is
flushed after every use with hot
mineral water at temperatures
between 102 and 104 degrees.
Between treatments, you can
soak in sun and enjoy the
outdoor pool and Jacuzzi heated
naturally with water from the
Calistoga hot springs, which
emerges from the ground at 140-
degrees. The minerals in the
water are excellent for softening
your skin. The pool is housed in

an inviting cabana that also includes a shower and changing room.

All the rooms have been remodeled in last five years and include a
private bath or shower, color cable TV, air conditioning, a refrigerator,
and complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water. There are three
types of rooms: standard rooms, superior rooms and the most
popular Jacuzzi rooms. Those rooms feature a full size whirlpool spa,
king bed, vaulted ceilings and dressing area.
