3.7. National and <strong>in</strong>ternational cooperation<br />
On the national level the most important counterparts of the Institute are the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Agriculture<br />
and Forestry, the Department of Fish and Game, the F<strong>in</strong>nish <strong>Environment</strong> Institute, various<br />
universities and their biological stations, the F<strong>in</strong>nish Institute of Mar<strong>in</strong>e Research, other <strong>research</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>stitutes, the Federation of F<strong>in</strong>nish Fisheries Association and many private companies.<br />
International cooperation is ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong>ed with the International Council for the Exploration of the<br />
Sea (ICES), the International <strong>Baltic</strong> Sea Fisheries Commission (IBSFC) and the North Atlantic<br />
Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO). The Institute also contributes to the work of the<br />
European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC, FAO) as well as the Nordic Council<br />
of M<strong>in</strong>isters. Active cooperation also takes place with the correspond<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>stitutes <strong>in</strong> other Nordic<br />
countries, all the countries surround<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Baltic</strong> Sea and <strong>in</strong>stitutes <strong>in</strong> the United K<strong>in</strong>gdom,<br />
Germany, the Netherlands, USA and Canada.
