Kevin Douglas McWhinney (Non-Independent Director) holds an
Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Committed to professionalism and lifelong learning, he has also obtained his
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC),
Certified Financial Planner (CFP ® ) and LIMRA Life Institute Fellowship (LLIF)
industry designations.
He joined Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad (now known as Manulife
Holdings Berhad) in January 2006 as the Executive Vice President, Distribution
with overall responsibility for Agency, Bancassurance, Financial Advisors
as well as the Training and Development and Marketing Departments. In
December 2008, Kevin was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Director
of Manulife Insurance Berhad.
Prior to joining Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad (now known as
Manulife Holdings Berhad), Mr McWhinney was the Assistant Vice President
for Regional Agency Development in the Manulife Financial’s Regional Head
Office in Hong Kong. In this position, he played a leadership role in driving
strategic agency initiatives throughout Asia, primarily in Indonesia, Vietnam,
Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
Datuk Ismail Bin Haji Ahmad (Independent Director) was appointed to
the Board on 26 May 2008. He graduated from University Malaya with a
Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) and later obtained his Masters Degree in
Public Policy and Administration from the University of Wisconsin, United
States of America. He had also attended the Senior Management Program
conducted by the Harvard Business School.
Prior to joining the private sector, he had served as an officer in the
Administrative and Diplomatic Service Malaysia in the Prime Minister’s
Department, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Primary Industries.
While in the Government service, he had served in senior positions as the
Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Chief
Executive Officer of the Commodities Trading Commission.
After his retirement from the Civil Service, he had served as Chairman
of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad and Board member of Advanced
Packaging Technology (M) Berhad and Tracoma Holdings Berhad and
