Manulife Malaysia Equity Fund - Manulife Insurance Berhad

Datuk Ismail Bin Haji Ahmad (Independent Director) was appointed to
the Board on 26 May 2008. He graduated from University Malaya with a
Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honours) and later obtained his Masters Degree in
Public Policy and Administration from the University of Wisconsin, United
States of America. He had also attended the Senior Management Program
conducted by the Harvard Business School.
Prior to joining the private sector, he had served as an officer in the
Administrative and Diplomatic Service Malaysia in the Prime Minister’s
Department, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Primary Industries.
While in the Government service, he had served in senior positions as the
Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary Industries and the Chief
Executive Officer of the Commodities Trading Commission.
After his retirement from the Civil Service, he had served as Chairman
of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad and Board member of Advanced
Packaging Technology (M) Berhad and Tracoma Holdings Berhad and
IPP Venture Berhad. Datuk also sits on the Boards of Manulife Holdings
Berhad (formerly known as Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad), Manulife
Insurance Berhad and the Manager.
Jillian Avis Kathryn Smith was appointed to the Board of the Investment
Manager on 26 May 2008.
She holds a BA (Honours) Sociology and Post Graduate Certificate of
Education, both from University of Durham, United Kingdom. She joined
MFC Global Investment Management (Asia) in Hong Kong as Vice President
and Head of the ASEAN Territories in August 2007. As of 1 July 2009, Jill
has relocated to Singapore to take up the position of Managing Director of
Manulife Asset Management (Singapore) Pte Ltd and currently retains her
duties as Head of ASEAN Territories.
Jill has over thirty years experience in the investment management industry.
She worked in London for fifteen years before moving to Asia in 1993.
During her career, Jill has managed Asian and Japanese Equity unit trusts,
pension funds and other institutional portfolios, has been Head of Marketing
and Sales of Lazard Investors (London) and Managing Director of Lazard
Investors (Singapore) and, Rothschild Asset Management (Singapore).
Most recently she was Head of Operations for Western Asset Management
(Singapore).
Michael Chan Yui Lung (non-independent director) was appointed to the
Board on 25 February 2009. He is a Fellow Member of the British Royal
