7 Understanding PortAventura PortAventura was created with the aim of offering the public the illusion of a trip around the world in just a few hours to the public. And also to let them play, have fun and smile. PortAventura means an opportunity for you to get acquainted with the Far West, where, besides experiencing intense sensations in the attractions, you can see the houses, food and extravagant characters. So, if you have no chance of visiting your dreamed-of Polynesia, watch live the Polynesians actually sing and dance. So you will gain an insight on some aspects of the Chinese culture such as their writing and architecture while enjoying the virtuosity of a team of Chinese acrobats as well as one of the most exciting experiences by getting on the raging Dragón Khan. Each theme area, a piece of history In PortAventura nothing is left to chance. For the definition of the themes, years of research and the work of many men and women were needed in order to weave a park where scenery, attractions and show all have both a purpose and a reason behind them. Behind each theme area there is a piece of history based on a detailed research, time lining, scenery and architecture. Navigation and railway Water is one of the integrating items in PortAventura. The various theme areas are developed around seas, rivers and lagoons. In Mediterrània, a cove and a fishing port in front of the sea. In Polynesia, water surrounds the various Pacific Islands and gets us closer to the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. In China it takes the shape of the “Yang Tse” (Yellow River) delta, and in the Far West turns into the winding Colorado river that cuts through the Grand Canyon. Besides, between Mediterrània and China there is a transport service featuring typical vessels which connects both areas for the public. Another transportation means found in PortAventura is the railway, which can be used for visiting the entire park riding on legendary steam trains that pay homage the American trains that on 1869 eventually were able to link the East and West coasts in the United States.
