Mediterrània
You just arrived at PortAventura and Mediterrània welcomes you. The iodine smell, the
hospitality of its inhabitants and a kind landscape full of light will be with you throughout
your journey through the squares and narrow streets of a village on the Mediterranean
shore.
Meticulously designed, each building, even the flooring of the “Plaça Major”, has its own actual referents. Whoever
may have visited the Plaça Major in Vila de Prades (Baix Camp, Tarragona), will notice the resemblance of both
squares regarding floors, with rolling-stone laying by following the tradition prevailing in the Romanic period. For the
theme of the Mediterrània area original materials were sought, buildings representative of various Mediterranean
peoples were designed and professionals and craftsmen pursued the closest similarity of every detail. The hydraulic
mosaic, for instance, found at the gift shop Els Arcs and the ceiling work with dark wooden beams and polychrome
paintings resemble the Catalonian manor houses of the late 19th century under the influence of the Modernism.
The boats of the “Drassanes” were hauled from Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) and the “tartana” (clunker) of the
masía, the countryhouse, is as genuine as real, as it was donated to the park by a resident of Montbrió del Camp
(Tarragona).
When you reach the waterline you will feel as if you were in a small fishermen’s village; their houses lined-up facing
the sea, the half-moon beach, the port, the boats, and the typical Mediterranean vegetation, with aromatic plants
and, of course vines growing up in terraces, on which tops you will find the cellar where, in big casks, the best wine is
produced. La casa de Bac0 (Baco’s house) is a great temptation for losing control, where a mad inventor will make
your hair spike up should you decide to get on a wagon in Furius Baco.
