children and families, NCJW launched Yad B’Yad — Hand in Hand — with<br />

Israel. Through this program, NCJW provides grants <strong>to</strong> Israeli community,<br />

and Bedouin sec<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

ORT is the largest global non-governmental education organization.<br />

The ORT network h<strong>as</strong> a presence in 63 countries, educating and training<br />

more than 300,000 students and beneficiaries daily. ORT’s heritage is 130<br />

years old, beginning in tsarist Russia <strong>to</strong> provide impoverished Jews with<br />

more than 75 percent job placement rate after graduation and one-third<br />

The Samis Foundation, incorporated in 1979 by Samuel Israel, makes<br />

grants in two geographic are<strong>as</strong>: W<strong>as</strong>hing<strong>to</strong>n State and Israel. In W<strong>as</strong>hing<strong>to</strong>n,<br />

its primary focus is supporting K–12 <strong>Jewish</strong> education, mostly day<br />

schools, overnight camps and Israel experiences.<br />

In Israel, Samis supports a range of programs, including immigrant<br />

absorption, university scholarships for needy gifted students, wildlife<br />

preservation and archaeology.<br />

Grant applications are by invitation only, limited <strong>to</strong> 501(c)(3) organizations.<br />

The SAJD Supported Living Program of <strong>Jewish</strong> Family Service provides<br />

skilled, comp<strong>as</strong>sionate, supported-living services for people with developmental<br />

disabilities, persistent mental illness, and brain injuries. Professional<br />

c<strong>as</strong>e managers work <strong>to</strong> ensure that clients with disabilities have<br />

all the resources required <strong>to</strong> live in the community. Services are tailored<br />

<strong>to</strong> meet the unique needs of each individual and include enhanced c<strong>as</strong>e<br />

management, instruction in practical life skills, pre-vocational services<br />

and professional in-home care. In conjunction with JFS Family Life<br />

Education, the SAJD Supported Living Program helps coordinate Sha’arei<br />

Tikvah: Celebrations for All. This special holiday programming is for<br />

people of all abilities, their families and friends. SAJD Supported Living<br />

Program charges an affordable hourly fee. Limited financial <strong>as</strong>sistance<br />

may be available.<br />
