Young Adults at Beth Am (YABA) is a group created <strong>to</strong> serve individuals<br />
and couples in their 20s and 30s at Temple Beth Am, offering young adults<br />
living in Seattle a chance <strong>to</strong> build <strong>Jewish</strong> community in a Reform context.<br />
Young Families@Beth Am serves <strong>Jewish</strong> families with children ages<br />
newborn <strong>to</strong> 6 years old, helping bridge the gap from birth through the<br />
first year in school in a uniquely <strong>Jewish</strong> context, and <strong>to</strong> build community,<br />
foster new friendships, connect people, and have fun. Young Families<br />
offers monthly programs for children and adults, including Sippy Cup<br />
Schmoozes, Tot Shabbats, and <strong>Jewish</strong> holiday events. These programs are<br />
a great place <strong>to</strong> meet other families with young children from all around<br />
the Seattle area, including interfaith, LGBT, and single parents, and are<br />
e<strong>as</strong>y <strong>to</strong> find on Facebook and Meetup.com.<br />
People do not have <strong>to</strong> be a member of Temple Beth Am <strong>to</strong> belong <strong>to</strong><br />
either of these groups.<br />

BBYO is the leading pluralistic teen movement <strong>as</strong>piring <strong>to</strong> involve more<br />
<strong>Jewish</strong> teens in more meaningful <strong>Jewish</strong> experiences. For nearly 90 years,<br />
BBYO h<strong>as</strong> provided exceptional identity enrichment and leadership development<br />
experiences for hundreds of thousands of <strong>Jewish</strong> teens. BBYO<br />
provides a framework for teens <strong>to</strong> learn leadership skills and <strong>to</strong> identify<br />
with their <strong>Jewish</strong> heritage by offering a youth-led experience.<br />
The Evergreen region h<strong>as</strong> over 265 members in multiple chapters<br />
throughout the Northwest. Chapters are currently active in Seattle,<br />
Portland and Eugene. Non-affiliated <strong>Jewish</strong> teens are also encouraged<br />
<strong>to</strong> become members and <strong>to</strong> enjoy the benefits of an international <strong>Jewish</strong><br />
youth movement. These members are invited <strong>to</strong> attend all regional and<br />
international programs.<br />
Participants, including those from Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and<br />
non-affiliated backgrounds, join <strong>to</strong>gether in religious observance, sports, social<br />
events, leadership development, cultural activities and community service<br />
projects. Volunteer advisors provide each chapter with guidance and support.<br />
In the Seattle area, BBYO meetings are scheduled every Monday evening,<br />
7:30–8:30 p.m., at the Stroum JCC on Mercer Island.<br />

The B’nai Mitzvah miles<strong>to</strong>ne is an important one in a young person’s<br />
life. Chabad Hebrew School offers a one-year program taking place<br />
every Sunday morning throughout the school year. This program offers<br />
a comprehensive curriculum of Hebrew language, <strong>Jewish</strong> his<strong>to</strong>ry, <strong>Jewish</strong><br />
holidays, the <strong>Jewish</strong> lifecycle, and <strong>Jewish</strong> thought and philosophy.<br />
There are guest speakers and time for open discussions about becoming<br />
teens and the B’nai Mitzvah process. This is all takes place in an environment<br />
of friendship, respect and <strong>to</strong>lerance.<br />
Instruc<strong>to</strong>rs come highly qualified with years of <strong>Jewish</strong> and Hebrew<br />
teaching experience.<br />
Students usually schedule private tu<strong>to</strong>rials for their actual B’nai Mitzvah<br />
experiences (only available for enrolled CHS students).<br />
