The Polack Adult Day Center is located on the Seward Park lakeside<br />

campus of the Kline Galland Home. Operating Monday through Thursday,<br />

the center provides social, recreational and health moni<strong>to</strong>ring <strong>to</strong> older<br />

adults. Participants benefit from social interaction and stimulating activities<br />

in a supportive environment, and are thus enabled <strong>to</strong> remain in their<br />

homes longer. The day center also provides needed respite for caregivers<br />

and introduces participants and their families <strong>to</strong> the greater network of<br />

services the Kline Galland Center offers. Services include transportation;<br />

a hot, nutritious kosher lunch; health moni<strong>to</strong>ring by a registered nurse;<br />

and family support and counseling. Activities include exercises, art,<br />

entertainment, current events and discussion groups, outings and <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

cultural celebrations.<br />

The Senior Nutrition Program and Kosher Meals on Wheels are provided<br />

via Senior Services of King County. To request Meals on Wheels, ple<strong>as</strong>e<br />

call 206-448-5767. A kosher lunch program, with a minimal fee, is open <strong>to</strong><br />

seniors on a weekly b<strong>as</strong>is on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. at the Kline Galland Home.<br />

Seattle <strong>Jewish</strong> Seniors is the type of group social scientists favorably<br />

describe and geron<strong>to</strong>logists prescribe <strong>as</strong> a regimen <strong>as</strong> necessary <strong>as</strong><br />

medications. This senior group of volunteers is informal, independent<br />

and interesting, but most of all they are social. These volunteers develop,<br />

plan, coordinate and promote all activities of the SJS program. Schmoozes,<br />

Schmoviies, and current events are regularly scheduled activities. They<br />

also plan hikes <strong>to</strong> many Seattle-area parks <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> trips <strong>to</strong> cultural and<br />
