What are the requirements <strong>for</strong> treatment to be covered by ACT 62?<br />
The treatment:<br />
Must be <strong>for</strong> an Autism Spectrum Disorder;<br />
Must be medically necessary;<br />
Must be identified in a treatment plan;<br />
Must be prescribed, ordered, or provided by a licensed physician, licensed<br />
physician assistant, licensed psychologist, licensed clinical social worker,<br />
or certified registered nurse practitioner; and<br />
Must be provided by an <strong>autism</strong> service provider or a person, entity, or<br />
group that works under the direction <strong>of</strong> an Autism service provider.<br />
Where will I find more in<strong>for</strong>mation about Autism insurance?<br />
Children <strong>with</strong><br />
ASD <strong>of</strong>ten have<br />
other associated<br />
problems that can<br />
include sensory<br />
impairment,<br />
gastrointestinal<br />
problems, sleep<br />
disturbances, and<br />
seizure <strong>disorders</strong>,<br />
as well as <strong>of</strong>ten<br />
appearing to<br />
have cognitive<br />
impairment. At the<br />
same time, they<br />
may also show<br />
special skills in<br />
certain areas like<br />
drawing, math,<br />
music, or memory.<br />

What does Medical Assistance cover <strong>for</strong> my child?<br />
Medical Assistance covers various behavioral health services not covered<br />
under commercial insurance, including Behavioral Health Rehabilitation<br />
Services (BHRS) and Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) services.<br />
What are BHRS services?<br />
BHRS or “wraparound services” are the most commonly recommended<br />
services <strong>for</strong> <strong>children</strong> <strong>with</strong> Autism and other Pervasive Developmental<br />
Disorders and include a range <strong>of</strong> individualized behavior management,<br />
treatment, and rehabilitation services provided in community settings. Settings<br />
may include the child’s home or school, as well as other settings such as<br />
camps, recreational venues, or commercial establishments.<br />
