It is important to note that <strong>the</strong> qualifications <strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

organisations are generally “open access” and provide opportunity to all – so<br />

that even individuals who have relatively low levels <strong>of</strong> prior qualification<br />

attainment are able to progress to <strong>the</strong> highest qualification levels, and<br />

ultimately achieve membership <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional bodies (combined with<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional experience).<br />

Information provided by <strong>the</strong> <strong>CCPMO</strong> indicates that prior educational<br />

achievement <strong>of</strong> those undertaking pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualifications varies<br />

considerably 10 . Although between 20% and 50% <strong>of</strong> individuals have previous<br />

qualifications at degree level or higher, <strong>the</strong>re is a substantial proportion <strong>of</strong><br />

individuals in possession <strong>of</strong> qualifications at ei<strong>the</strong>r Level 2 (i.e. 5 or more<br />

GCSEs) or Level 3 (i.e. 2 or more A-Levels). Notably, in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ICM,<br />
