A vacancy exists for an Interior Systems Engineer <strong>to</strong> join a team of rolling s<strong>to</strong>ck professionals dedicated <strong>to</strong> maintaining high standards of operational performance, safety, reliability and development on a fleet of tilting trains. Key activities will include: • Design review of proposed modifications and investigation in<strong>to</strong> design issues during the life of vehicle fleets. • Proposing improvements <strong>to</strong> vehicle fleets in response <strong>to</strong> service problems, marketing and other opportunities. • Reviewing maintenance regimes for the interiors aspects of rolling s<strong>to</strong>ck including documentation. • Consideration and application of new technologies, innovations and materials with regard <strong>to</strong> design, maintenance and reliability improvement. • Liaise with all parties in the development, trial and testing of modifications <strong>to</strong> improve the cus<strong>to</strong>mer service environment. Candidates should be rolling s<strong>to</strong>ck engineers with a good knowledge of the design, operation, maintenance and development of interiors gained, ideally, on modern fleets. Relevant experience is more important than formal qualifications but candidates are likely <strong>to</strong> be HNC/HND/graduate level engineers and will be required <strong>to</strong> liaise with engineers across a range of organisations. Vacancies exist for two Standards Engineers within ATOC; one <strong>to</strong> focus on rolling s<strong>to</strong>ck and another <strong>to</strong> work on a broader range of the interfacing rail sub-systems. The key elements of both roles are <strong>to</strong>: • Develop a clear understanding and <strong>to</strong> represent the interests of TOCs in standards development and application, working closely with their technical functions. • Work closely with a range of industry partners on the technical content of standards; assessing and communicating their implications <strong>to</strong> relevant parties and managing response. • Identify the standards (published, proposed or under revision) relevant <strong>to</strong> TOCs and use engineering knowledge <strong>to</strong> assess, develop a response and communicate their impact within UK. • Support the development of Technical Specifications for Interoperability and Euro Norms and <strong>to</strong> support the Systems, Standards and Engineering teams in the field in general. There will be close working with a range of key functions within ATOC, including the Engineering Council, and contact with bodies such as RSSB, BSI and Network <strong>Rail</strong> <strong>to</strong><strong>get</strong>her with several key European organisations. There will be opportunities for wide ranging European travel. Key European language skills would be advantageous, but their absence is not a barrier. Candidates may be graduate, chartered, incorporated or equivalent engineers with railway systems/rolling s<strong>to</strong>ck backgrounds and an understanding of the issues relating <strong>to</strong> standards. Sensitivity <strong>to</strong> the views of others <strong>to</strong><strong>get</strong>her with skills in communication, organisation, analysis and problem solving in an engineering context are also required.
