spectacular scenery and welcoming
locals. An overnight stay at the incredible
Topas Ecolodge is a highlight, for a truly
tranquil experience.
Day 1: Depart Hanoi by overnight train,
racing through the night towards Vietnam’s
stunning north.
Day 2: Wake to the picturesque scenery
of the countryside, disembarking at Lao
Cai, and continuing by road to Sapa. After
breakfast, become acquainted with this
lovely area with a brief guided tour of the
town and the local colourful market. Spend
some time exploring on your own.
Day 3: The next day, drive out of town
and descend by foot through verdant rice
terraces passing H’mong and Giay villages,
and learning more about this amazing
way of life high in the hills. Spend the
night in the remote Topas Ecolodge, with
breathtaking views on all sides.
Day 4: Visit a local Red Dzao village
located in a beautiful valley, returning to

With its tranquil mountain air, Sapa is
worlds away from busy streets of Hanoi,
and yet is easily reached by an overnight
train journey. View the sweeping vistas
across rice paddies stepped down the
mountains, and gain an insight into the
unique culture and lifestyles of some
of the ethnic minorities living at these

Day 1: Depart the capital in the early
evening and travel in a comfortable
four-berth sleeper to Lao Cai, near the
Chinese border.
Day 2: A short drive takes you up through
terraced rice fields to the French hill
station town of Sapa. Visit the Muong
Hoa Valley, descending by foot through
rural landscapes to villages inhabited
by Hmong and Giay minorities. Explore
Sapa’s colourful market.
Day 3: Visit a Red Dzao village and
spend some free time exploring Sapa
before transferring to Lao Cai for your
return overnight train trip.
