Villa Saykham is perfectly located close
to the Mekong River in the heart of Luang
Prabang. The property is set back from the
road, providing peace and quiet. Rooms
are small but well maintained, providing
all the facilities one would need in this
fabled town. Villa Saykham has been
restored to its original colonial style and
the provincial exterior, tiled grounds and
quiet gardens provide a peaceful retreat.
There is no pool here, however rooms do
have a television. This is a simple and
comfortable place to stay, with a nice
atmosphere and an excellent location,
proving an affordable option, especially
for families.

This is a small, simple, and very charming
property that consists of six separate
buildings, located in the centre of town on
the Mekong. Each building dates to colonial
times and has been restored according
to strict UNESCO guidelines. Rooms are
compact yet comfortable, and are simply
fitted with wood and bamboo furniture
and wooden floorboards. More aptly
described as a lodge, rather than a hotel,
no two rooms are the same, each having
its own style. A true escape, rooms do not
have televisions or phones. The open-air
riverbank restaurant is a great spot for
watching monks pass by in the morning.

Villa Santi is a century-old, former
royal mansion which has been restored
to retain its lovely old-world charm,
yet is equipped with many modern
conveniences. The rooms are furnished
with hand-crafted rosewood furniture
and silk textiles. The restaurant offers
Lao cuisine in the royal style, as well
as international dishes, which can be
enjoyed in the balcony for a romantic
dinner for two. Sit outside in the
courtyard bar, bathed in the soft lantern
and candle light, for a relaxing drink or a

is a great value option, especially for

With a wonderful mix of tradition and

Villa Maydou is a pleasant 15 minute
walk from the centre of Luang Prabang
and is set amongst lovely gardens close
to the Nam Khan River and a nearby
monastery. Buildings are original and
are Laotian in style. Rooms are stylishly
furnished with either terracotta tile
or wooden floors and elegant white
bathtubs. In keeping with the pared-down
style rooms do not have televisions but
do offer comforts such as a mini-bar
and hairdryer. There is no pool, however
the gardens make for a pleasant retreat
after a long day’s touring, and the overall
tropical ambience ensures a wonderful
atmosphere. This is one of the best
boutique options in a quiet part of town.
