Ancient Temples of Sambour

a great experience off the tourist trail.

Day 1: Drive north from Phnom Penh into
the picturesque countryside of Cambodia.
Wander through a small local market
at Skuon, before arriving into Kampong
Cham. This riverside provincial capital
has a small town feel and is dotted with
beautiful decaying colonial architecture.
Visit Wat Nokor temple, an ancient
Angkorian structure combined with a
modern day temple and a riot of colour
and design. Drive along the backroads
passing through rubber plantations and
rice fields. Stop at a small silk farm learn
the intricacies of traditional silk production
before arriving in Kampong Thom.
Day 2: Explore the ruins of Sambour
Prei Kuk, one of the oldest temple cities
in Southeast Asia, stopping at the
most impressive temples in the area.
This group of temples is little visited
by tourists and provides an insight into
historical architecture in Cambodia.

stopping at a rubber factory to learn about
an important Cambodian industry, and
riverside Chhlong, with its atmospheric
rows of old French trading houses. Rustic
Kratie is your launching pad for a gentle
cruise in search of the famous freshwater
Irrawaddy dolphin, with a good chance
of spotting one of these remarkable
mammals. Explore Sambok Hill before
returning to the capital.
Day 1: Depart Phnom Penh for the city
of Kampong Cham where you will visit
Phnom Bros hill and the ancient temple of
Wat Nokor. Head further north and pass
through rubber plantations, taking time
to visit the Chup rubber processing plant.
Arrive at your riverside hotel in Kratie
late afternoon.
Day 2: Take a short drive through the
tropical countryside to board your boat to
visit the Irrawaddy Dolphins. A short trip
brings you to the Dolphin Pool located in a
remote and peaceful area of the Mekong
river. Spend an hour at the Dolphin Pool,
watching for these incredible creatures to
