temples and mountains, the endangered
Irrawaddy River Dolphin, as well as the
idyllic 4,000 Islands stretch of the Mekong.
Your travels in the tranquil south will make
for a great contrast with touring in Luang
Prabang and the north, and this in-depth
journey is richly rewarding.
Day 1: Tour Pakse town and the forested
Bolaven Plateau to see hilltribe villages,
taste the delicious coffee produced in this
region at the lush coffee plantations and
see amazing waterfalls.
Day 2: Visit Champasak and the
mysterious World Heritage listed pre-
Angkorian ruins of Wat Phou, and set out
from a small Lao village on an elephant
trek to the top of Mt Asa for spectacular
views of the surrounding countryside.
Retire to a simple but clean and
comfortable ecolodge amidst peaceful,

Day 3: A short drive leads to the 4,000
Islands and Khong Island, where you

For an exploration of the little visited south
of Laos combined with a taste of both
Vientiane and Luang Prabang, this journey
is the perfect amalgamation of highlights,
and getting off the beaten track.
Day 1: Tour Pakse and head to the lush
Bolaven Plateau for a sample of the
fantastic coffee grown in this area, before
the Tad Fane Waterfall.
Day 2: Visit the pre-Angkorian Wat
Phou temple, and then set out on an
elephant ride for views over the stunning
countryside nearby. Travel to Khong Island
where you will find lovely old Frenchcolonial
houses and quaint fishing villages.
Day 3: Explore the 4,000 Islands by local
boat and visit tumultuous Khone Phapheng
falls, before returning to Pakse.
Day 4: Fly to Vientiane for a visit to
some of the main monuments, including
Wat Sisaket.
Day 5: Fly to beautiful Luang Prabang and
explore monasteries and temples, before a
fun cooking class.
Day 6: Marvel at the former Royal Palace,
and climb to the top of Mount Phou Si.

Day 7: Travel to Kuang Si waterfall with
time to swim and relax.
Days 8-9: Cruise to Kamu Lodge, staying
in a comfortable permanent tent. Here you
can take part in rice planting, fishing, gold
panning or archery.

Lodge before you return to Luang Prabang

Staying in charming lodge accommodation,
travel through the pristine waterways
of Southern Laos, and area little-visited
by tourists. Here, discover the World
Heritage listed temple of Wat Phou and
the remains of the sole railway. Search for
the elusive Irrawaddy dolphin, and see the
largest waterfall in Southeast Asia, before
returning to Pakse.
Day 1: Transfer to Dong Daeng Island and
La Folie Lodge, and then travel a short
distance to Champasak town, home to Wat
Phou. Soak up the atmosphere with your
guide, then travel back to your riverside
lodge for a cool drink to admire the sunset
from your bungalow or poolside restaurant.
Day 2: Transfer back to the mainland
and drive south down to the famous 4000
Islands. Embark on a full day’s tour taking
in the best of what the 4000 islands region
has to offer. Board a local boat and travel
to Khone Island to see Li Phi falls and the
remains of the sole railway. Take some
time here to also see some of the various
fishing techniques used by the locals,
before visiting Ban Done Date village
to look out for the famous and elusive

Irrawaddy freshwater dolphins. In the
afternoon, cross the Mekong for your trip
to Khonephapheng Falls, the largest falls
in Southeast Asia. Return to your Lodge
for sunset.
Day 3: After breakfast return to the
mainland to be transferred back to Pakse
for your ongoing arrangements.
