Dr. Herlong marked <strong>the</strong> location <strong>of</strong> seven mill sites on <strong>the</strong> Saluda County highway map:<br />

Rudolph’s/E<strong>the</strong>ridge’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Hutson’s/Smith’s/Graham’s <strong>Mill</strong>, E<strong>the</strong>ridge’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Pope’s<br />

<strong>Mill</strong>, Lorick’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Re<strong>in</strong>hart’s/Harper’s <strong>Mill</strong>, <strong>and</strong> Padgett’s <strong>Mill</strong>. She also provided a<br />

sketch <strong>of</strong> Padgett’s <strong>Mill</strong>, copies <strong>of</strong> photographs <strong>of</strong> Hare’s <strong>Mill</strong>, <strong>and</strong> xeroxed text about<br />

Hare’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Lorick’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Pope’s <strong>Mill</strong>, R<strong>in</strong>ehart’s <strong>Mill</strong>, Graham’s <strong>Mill</strong>, <strong>and</strong><br />

Pope’s/Rudolph’s/E<strong>the</strong>ridge’s <strong>Mill</strong>. F<strong>in</strong>ally, Dr. Herlong provided a copy <strong>of</strong> a photograph<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rudolph’s house that was located near <strong>the</strong>ir mill.<br />

York County<br />

Broad River Bas<strong>in</strong> <strong>Historic</strong>al Society<br />

On <strong>the</strong> road map <strong>of</strong> York County, Mr. West marked <strong>the</strong> location <strong>of</strong> four mill sites <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

western portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> county: Whiteside’s, Allison’s, Lucas’, <strong>and</strong> Good’s or Kidd’s mills.<br />

He also noted that Scott’s mill, dat<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> American Revolution, was located on Turkey<br />

Creek just east <strong>of</strong> Sharon. Mr. West fur<strong>the</strong>r noted that <strong>the</strong> newly created Museum <strong>of</strong><br />

Western York County has a collection <strong>of</strong> more than 700 photographs, but apparently none<br />

are <strong>of</strong> grist mills.
