B. that are associated with <strong>the</strong> lives <strong>of</strong> persons significant <strong>in</strong> our past; or<br />

C. that embody <strong>the</strong> dist<strong>in</strong>ctive characteristics <strong>of</strong> a type, period, or method <strong>of</strong><br />

construction, or that represent <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> a master, or that possess high<br />

artistic value, or that represent a significant <strong>and</strong> dist<strong>in</strong>guishable entity<br />

whose components may lack <strong>in</strong>dividual dist<strong>in</strong>ction; or<br />

D. that have yielded, or may be likely to yield, <strong>in</strong>formation important <strong>in</strong><br />

prehistory or history.<br />

If a mill site has reasonably good <strong>in</strong>tegrity <strong>and</strong> can be shown to address one or more <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

research issues outl<strong>in</strong>ed above, or o<strong>the</strong>r research considerations, <strong>the</strong>n it should be considered<br />

eligible for nom<strong>in</strong>ation to <strong>the</strong> NRHP. It is not unusual for more than one mill to occupy a short<br />

stretch <strong>of</strong> a stream or river, particularly at shoals. In those cases <strong>the</strong> group <strong>of</strong> mill sites might be<br />

evaluated for list<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> NRHP as a district.<br />
