• Kenia Whitehead, the 1992 Isaacs scholar, received the Harold C.<br />

Bold Award from the Phycological Society of America for the innovative<br />

pre-doctoral research she conducted at the University of Washington,<br />

School of Oceanography.<br />

• Caren Braby, a <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Grant</strong> trainee with George Somero at Stanford<br />

University—Hopkins Marine Station, received the Best Student Paper<br />

Award at the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology Conference.<br />

• Ayeh Bandeh-Ahmadi, the 1998 John D. Isaacs Scholarship winner,<br />

was the recipient of the Robert L. Noland Leadership Award. This is<br />

presented by the <strong>California</strong> Institute of Technology to upperclass students<br />

who exhibit special qualities of leadership.<br />

• <strong>California</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Grant</strong> Marine Advisor Susan McBride received an<br />

award from the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors for contributions<br />

to the Redwood Coast Tsunami Workgroup.<br />

• Bight Bulletin (Boletín de la Cuenca), a free bilingual newsletter<br />

featuring water quality, watersheds, and coastal habitat concerns in the<br />

<strong>California</strong> Bight, received an APEX 2002 Award of Excellence. The newsletter<br />

is a joint effort of the <strong>San</strong> <strong>Diego</strong> Association of Governments and<br />

<strong>California</strong> <strong>Sea</strong> <strong>Grant</strong>, with<br />
