17. FOCUS AREAS
A. Renewable Energy Integration
High generation from RE (wind) sources:
1. Over loading of 220 / 66 KV Shivlakha ICTs with power flow from 66 KV to 220 KV
side.
2. The loading of 220 KV D/C Tappar – Shivlakha line is almost near to the thermal
loading capacity of the line.
Less generation from RE (wind) sources:
The loading on 400/220 KV ICTs at Jetpur, Hadala and Amreli is to the extent of 65 to
70 % and it becomes difficult to avail outages on any of these ICTs.
B. Continuous over loading of 220 KV Hadala – Nyara D/C line
These lines are carrying power flow of around 220-230 MW on each circuit and
despite keeping 220 KV S/C Tappar – Hadala and 220 KV S/C Rajkot – Jetpur lines OFF,
they carry around 190 MW on each circuit.
C. Continuous over loading of 220 KV Kawas – Ichhapore S/C line
The loading on this line varies in the range of 200 to 300 MW due to continuous
variable load of M/s. Essar Steel Ltd (ESTL). Despite keeping one or both circuits of 220
KV D/C Haldarva – Kawas line OFF (as the flow is from Haldarva to Kawas), the loading
on this line is quite excessive due to sale of power to M/s. ESTL on STOA, less
requisition of DISCOM from EPOL (To adhere to merit order despatch).
The issue has been discussed twice at Kawas NTPC in presence of WRPC, NTPC, M/s.
Essar Power Ltd. and GETCO representatives and also, in OCC Meetings. Various
options have been discussed and it is finalized to resolve the issue at the earliest.
