Fabian, and in July 2009 their baby girl, Lynn,<br />

was born. At the moment she is at home and<br />

also working for her husband’s company.<br />

Kate (Hanzel) ’96 and Kevin Coniglio ’96<br />

reside in Lincoln with their two children<br />

Luciana Grace, who was born on Oct. 12,<br />

2009, and her big sister, Mia, born on Oct.<br />

14, 2007. Kate graduated from UNMC with<br />

a master’s in nursing in May 2009. She is<br />

now board certified as an adult acute nurse<br />

practioner.<br />

Alicen (Schulte) Brandl ’97 and her husband,<br />

David, reside in Lincoln with their two<br />

children, William and Samuel. Alicen is a RN<br />

as well as a stay-at-home mom.<br />

Ann (Brady) Rivera ’98 and her husband,<br />

Kirk, have been married since October<br />

2007. Their 19-month-old daughter, Natalie<br />

Marie, was born in July 2008. Ann has been a<br />

registered nurse for four years.<br />

2000s<br />

Kristine (Sand) Black ’00 and her husband,<br />

Robbie, have been married for six wonderful<br />

years, and they have been blessed with three<br />

beautiful children. Their life is truly a gift<br />

from God. Kristine is homemaker, fitness<br />

instructor and LPN.<br />

Erika (Bruening) Pawlowski ’00 teaches<br />

high school English and also works as an<br />

adjunct professor of education at Nebraska<br />

Wesleyan University. She is enrolled in<br />

a doctoral program at the University of<br />

Nebraska-Lincoln, which she hopes to<br />

complete in 2011. Erika married her husband,<br />

Luke Pawlowski, in 2008.<br />

Zachary Stammer ’01 married Ashley<br />

Sorensen of Lincoln in August 2009, just a<br />

week after his grandmother, Tillie Hruby,<br />

passed away. He has two daughters, Patrice,<br />

born in December 2007, and Tillie, born in<br />

January 2009.<br />

Kati (Fick) Skrdla ’02 and her husband,<br />

Jeremy, were married on Dec. 31, 2005. They<br />

have two daughters, Bernadette, born on Oct.<br />

18, 2006, and Clare, born on May 23, 2008.<br />

The family resides in Lincoln where Kati is a<br />

stay-at-home mom.<br />

Nicholas Fisher ’02 is currently in the Air<br />

Force serving in Misawa, Japan. He has been<br />

in the Air Force almost seven years now and<br />

has less than two years left in Japan. Nicholas<br />

has been stationed in Texas and Istanbul,<br />

Turkey. He married Penny Long from Hawley,<br />

Texas, in April 2005; she is also in the Air<br />

Force. They welcomed their first child,<br />

Nicholas James, on Dec. 22, 2009.<br />

Martin Oborny ’02 graduated from basic<br />

training at Lackland Air Force Base in San<br />

Antonio as an Air National Guard Airman.<br />

Becke (Stammer) Galarza ’02 has been<br />

married since 2003. They have a daughter,<br />

Natalie, born Dec. 31, 2003, and a son,<br />

Diedrich, born April 1, 2008. Becke graduated<br />

from Kaplan University in August 2008 with<br />

an Associate of Applied Science degree in<br />

medical assisting. She is currently enrolled<br />

with University of Phoenix-online to obtain<br />

her bachelor’s in business with a concentration<br />

in accounting and expects to graduate in<br />

mid 2011. She has been employed with<br />

Nelnet since June 2009 and works in the post<br />

default department for their private loans.<br />

Her grandmother, Tillie Hruby, passed away<br />

August 2009 to Alzheimer’s. She was 88<br />

years old. She passed only a week before her<br />

brother, Zach Stammer’s wedding. She is<br />

survived by seven children; 14 grandchildren;<br />

two step-grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren;<br />

four step-great-grandchildren.<br />

Doug Auten ’03 and his wife,<br />

Michella Prasek, were married<br />

on April 26, 2008. Dan and<br />

Michella have two children,<br />

Broklyn James born on Feb. 9,<br />

2007, and Emily Nichole born<br />

on April 21, 2009. Michella is a 2002 Lincoln<br />

<strong>High</strong> graduate. The family resides in Lincoln<br />

where Doug is employed at TMCO and<br />

Michella is a stay-at-home mom. They both<br />

love their jobs very much.<br />

Dustyn Curran ’03 and his wife, Kristen,<br />

reside in Minnesota where Dustyn is a<br />

construction engineer/project manager.<br />

Kali Krings ’04 received her Bachelor of<br />

Science Nursing degree on Dec. 19, 2009 from<br />

the BryanLGH College of Health Sciences.<br />

Jason Gfeller ‘05 was chosen to receive the<br />

Pride of the Plains marching band award from<br />

the University of Nebraska-Kearney. This<br />

award is given to the outstanding graduating<br />

member of the UNK Marching Band. He was<br />

very surprised as this honor is usually awarded<br />

to a music major, which he is not. His name<br />

will be engraved on a plaque that hangs in the<br />

UNK band room.<br />

Michaela McBride ‘05<br />

graduated Dec. 19, 2009 from<br />

the University of Nebraska<br />

- Lincoln with a bachelor’s<br />

degree in biological systems engineering.<br />

She’s moved to Maryland where she will<br />

be doing research in the Army lab to help<br />

improve the soldiers’ equipment.<br />

Masrur Odinaev ’05 and his wife, Dilana,<br />

are expecting their first child and reside in<br />

Los Angeles as well as Frankfurt am Main,<br />

Germany. Masrur graduated from Full Sail<br />

University in Orlando, Fla. and is the CEO<br />

for Tajik Records and marketing director for<br />

Electronics Network 101 in San Francisco.<br />

Kory Kahlandt ’06 is a senior running<br />

back for Nebraska Wesleyan University. He<br />

received the Great Plains Athletic Conference<br />

First-Team All-Conference honors at the<br />

running back position. Kory finished with<br />

the seventh highest season rushing total (936<br />

yards) in school history and tied the school<br />

record for 14 rushing touchdowns.<br />

Greg Zuerlein ’06 was named an AFCA<br />

Division II All-American according to the<br />

Lincoln Journal Star Dec. 8, 2009 issue.<br />

Greg made 17 of 23 field goals and had 30<br />

touchbacks on kickoffs.<br />

Amanda Lee ‘07 placed 10th in the East<br />

Coast Athletic Conference cross country<br />

championships to help lead her Middlebury<br />

College to the ECAC Cross Country<br />

Championship. Middlebury College is<br />

an NCAA Division III school located in<br />

Middlebury, Vt.<br />

Lauren Cook ’09 has been named as the<br />

2009 AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches<br />

Association) Freshman of the Year for all<br />

NCAA Division I Volleyball Athletes. She was<br />

previously named the Freshman of the Year<br />

in the Pac-10 Conference, and Freshman of<br />

the Year in the Pacific Region of the United<br />

States. Lauren also received All-Conference<br />

Honorable Mention accolades. She was also<br />

was selected to the Pac-10 All-Freshman<br />

Team. Lauren became just the fifth Bruin<br />

all-time to earn AVCA National Player of the<br />

Week honors on Sept. 14, also receiving Pac-<br />

10 Player of the week accolades. Lauren just<br />

completed her freshman year at UCLA. She<br />

was the starting setter for the Bruins.<br />

Caroline Barber ’09 signed with Murray<br />

State University, in Murray, Ky, for Rifle.<br />

They had their conference championship,<br />

called the Ohio Valley Conference Feb.<br />

6-7, and Caroline wanted to let the <strong>Pius</strong><br />

Community know that they won their<br />

conference.<br />
