BOLT 2010 “Grateful Reflections” On April 24, approximately 600 guests including parents, alumni and friends of Pius X gathered together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the annual BOLT dinner and auction themed “Grateful Reflections.” Numbers are still being calculated, but proceeds will go toward security and the new kitchen fund. We thank everyone for the generous and ongoing support. We also thank our coordinating committee including, Rod and Michelle Arndt, Tim and Jennifer Conzemius, Steve and Libby Jaros, Fr. School News New artificial turf project in progress at Aldrich Field “There has been incredible support from the handful of individuals involved with this project,” said Michelle Birkel, Development Director. “We have many alumni, parents and friends who regularly support Lincoln’s only Catholic high school with gifts of various sizes. We continue to be pleased and amazed that so many people are willing to help. This investment will benefit our students and families for decades.” This summer, Pius X High School is replacing the sod on Aldrich Field with new artificial turf. The $525,000 project is underway with a completion deadline of Aug. 1, 2010. An anonymous donor offered a lead challenge gift for the specific purpose of equipping Aldrich Field with turf. At the current time, Pius X has other financial priorities including increasing faculty and staff salaries, building a kitchen (2010 BOLT dinner and auction dollars will be used for this), a new Performing Arts Center and renovating the locker rooms. At the same time, the A Tradition of Faith campaign and other Catholic campaigns in Lincoln are ongoing or in the initial stages. However, this opportunity could not be ignored. The initial donor took the initiative of asking others for help in this challenge project, and over $455,000 has been raised to date. We are very thankful for the lead and supporting gifts. The artificial turf will provide many benefits, including the reduction of impact injuries as athletes will play on a safer and more uniform surface. Aldrich Field will no longer be exclusively reserved for use during home football games, but will instead be available for football and soccer games, marching band rehearsals, P.E. classes, athletic practices and more. The only regular maintenance requirement will be raking the field a few times a year, and expenses for watering, mowing, and fertilizing will be eliminated. In addition, the grass practice facilities behind the school will stay in better condition, allowing more activities to take place on site. “This project will have a huge impact on Pius X,” said Tim Aylward, Athletic Director. “Not only will it provide a tremendous venue for our teams, band and students to play and practice on, but it will show that we continue to care about our students and the quality of the facilities at our school.” Pius X Courtyard Bricks of Remembrance Honor special friends or family members, or celebrate graduations, weddings or other special events by purchasing an inscribed brick to be placed under the newly redesigned arbor in the renovated Pius X courtyard. The cost is $100 per each inscribed 5.5” x 8” paver, with three lines of text (limit of 16 letters per line). We have only 60 bricks available!
