a son, Xavier James, at
10:18 a.m. on March 3,
2010, at Bethesda Naval. He weighed 6
pounds, 2.5 ounces and was 19 inches long.

and Britt Hayes ’00
welcomed a son, August
“Gus” Lawrence, on April
18, 2010. He weighed 8
pounds, 6 ounces. He joins his big sister,
Matilda, who was born July 24, 2008. Katie
teaches Spanish at Pius X.

Larry Mitchell ’80 passed away
on Oct. 7, 2004 at the age of 42.
Prior to his death he had worked
for Kawasaki for 15 years. He is
survived by his mother, Loretta
Mitchell; daughter, Breana; sister, Shari
(Mitchell) Congleton ’79 and her husband
Mike; one nephew, Christopher Landrigan and
one niece, Crystal Penland. Your family loves
you dearly and thinks of you often.
Teresa Ann Clifford passed
away on Jan. 11, 2009. She is
survived by her husband, Charles
F. Clifford; son and daughterin-law,
Chuck ’74 and Connie
Clifford; daughters and sons-in-law, Marianne
’72 and Steve Upton, Julianne ’77 and Mike
Taylor, and Carol ’80 and Mike Jenkins;
grandchildren, Chris, Corey, Carissa and
Connor Clifford, Danny ’07, Nick ’11 and
Scott Jenkins and Emily, Carolyn and Amanda
Taylor.
Art Ostdiek ’59 passed away on July 18,
2009. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie
(Peters) ’62 and daughter, Julie Somis. He
was the youngest of nine children. His sister,
Clara (Ostdiek) Bricher ’57 was also a Pius X
graduate.
Jose Prendes, 87, passed away on Oct. 10,
2009. He is survived by his wife, Olga; sons,
Eduardo, Dr. Carlos ’69 and wife Patricia ’69,
Jorge and wife Diane, Javier and Miguel and
wife Kelli; daughters, Maria Elena Albo ’65
and Dr. Maria Prendes-Lintel ’71 and husband
James; daughter-in-law, Marielena Prendes;
18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren;
one niece. He was preceded in death by his
parents; son Dr. Jose Luis Prendes ’62; one
brother; one sister; one nephew.
Walter “Walt” Polsky, 87, passed
away in October 2009. He is

Helen Churilla, 84, passed away on Oct.
24, 2009. She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, David and Julie Churilla,

Churilla; grandchildren, Joey ’07 and Kathy
Churilla, David and Danielle Richman; nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by

away on Oct. 28, 2009. She is
survived by her sons, John Patrick
O’Gara, M.D. (Marilyn), and
Robert M. O’Gara ’57 (Gayle);

Joseph Kopetka, 53, passed away on Oct.
30, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. He is
survived by his wife, Jackie Kopetka and their
children, Joseph and Stephanie ’13; mother,
Betty Kopetka; brother, Jim Kopetka and wife,
Val, and their children, Cami, Anthony and
Jessica.
Val “Gene” Frankforter, 73, passed away
on Nov. 3, 2009. He is survived by his wife,
