Thunderbolt Scramble 30

Welcome
Dear Alumni, Parents & Friends,
The 225 graduates in the Class of 2010 have achieved incredible goals; they represent themselves, their
families and Pius very well. I pray they will do well in life and stay close to our Lord.
BOLT 2010, “Grateful Reflections,” celebrated the 25th anniversary of this important and elegant
fundraising event for the students of Pius X. Once again, it was a wonderful evening and a great success.
Net proceeds of over $180,000 were realized to be used for security cameras and to begin saving for a new kitchen for the
food service program. Thank you to Deb Schulte and the BOLT executive committee for your leadership. Thank you to the
hundreds of volunteers and donors who step up each year to make this event successful and incredible.
As Pius X High School begins its 55th year in Lincoln, the school’s Board of Advisors is beginning a new strategic planning
process. While our ongoing accreditation process demands periodic goal setting and review of academic goals and various
construction projects in recent decades have involved elements of future planning for the facility, it has been several years
since we have undertaken an organized long-term vision and strategic planning exercise. The time is right to develop a
systematic vision involving all major elements of our institution. Once completed, it will provide better guidance and
accountability for achieving that vision. Some key elements of the vision and strategic plan must include:
• revisiting our mission statement and letting our mission drive our process (“We are dedicated to a total education that is
Christ-centered by integrating Catholic values in all areas of life and providing academic preparation of the highest
quality in a disciplined environment”)
• setting strong Catholic identity and culture goals
• setting and achieving high academic goals
• continuing to keep Pius X High School affordable for all families while providing fair and just wages and benefits for
our faculty and staff. If we want to continue to provide excellent education, we must offer competitive salaries to hire and
retain the best teachers. Hence, we must determine the best way to balance (or redistribute) sources of funding: tuition,
parish assessments, fund-raising, endowments, etc.
• developing a strategic master plan for future growth and renovation of the campus including such projects as:
◦ razing the old Clark Jeary building to provide more parking
◦ building a new Performing Arts Center
◦ renovating our locker rooms
◦ adding new classrooms and up-grading old classrooms
◦ improving our outside practice facilities
• identifying areas of the operation that need specific improvement
• fostering communication and joint planning with the eighteen parishes which support Pius X and the ten parochial schools
that feed into Pius X – Pius X is a centralized, parish high school. This also includes planning with other diocesan
agencies and organizations with regard to overlap of fund-raising campaigns
Thanks for all your prayers and support. It is the collective work and prayer of you and many others that makes Pius X High
School the great school that it is. May your summer bring joyful times with family, relaxation and rejuvenation!
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
“For it is in giving that we receive.” ~ St. Francis of Assisi
Dear Alumni, Cathedral Alumni, Parents and Friends,
We are pleased to bring you this newsletter, which provides an opportunity
for you to read about our students, fellow Pius X and Cathedral alumni and
what’s going on at Pius X today.
As we end another school year, each day brings about many reasons to be
proud of our students and over 8,600 of our alumni. On May 23, 226 students
graduated from Pius X. The Pius X tradition of excellence is alive and strong ,which you will see
in this issue as thirty-six of our graduates have parents who are also Pius X alumni! Very few
schools have a tradition of three-generation family lineage like we do. What a blessing!
It will be exciting at Pius X this summer as the football field is receiving a face-lift! New artificial
turf is being installed at Aldrich field. This project started mid May and will finish in time for
football practice which begins Aug. 9.
Thanks to the support of many parents, grandparents, alumni, businesses and friends, the $13
million A Tradition of Faith campaign which was kicked off in 2006, continues to be a great
success. As of April 30, we have collected almost $10.9 million. Our donors receive all the credit
for making this campaign so successful. Continued payment of the outstanding pledges is crucial
to the success of the campaign. Thank you for your help in keeping these current.
We also received some very good news around Christmas time that we are excited to share with
you. Pius X received a grant of $30,000 from the Dillon Foundation, plus donations of $27,000
and $25,000 from two anonymous donors. Thanks to their generous support, we have purchased
three new mobile, wireless, computer laboratories.
Money received from these donations has allowed us to purchase three mobile computer lab carts,
forty-five laptop computers, three wireless access points and three printers for the Social Studies
and Foreign Language departments. The new “classrooms on wheels” provide additional, relocatable,
computer labs and allow more flexibility among faculty for periodic use by students.
Each mobile cart unit houses fifteen notebook computers and a printer. Also, each notebook
computer is equipped with a wireless network interface card. Having access to these mobile
computer labs enables teachers the ability to instruct a class of thirty students without moving the
class from the originating classroom to another computer lab.
It is due to the generosity of our benefactors with their time, talent and treasure that we are able
to continue to educate children in a Christ-centered environment. Your efforts are not in vain.
Thank you for your continued support.
Foundation News
2009-2010 Annual Appeal reaches new record of $206,000
Congratulations! Donations this year to the Annual Appeal
not only brought together people by renewing friendships
and making new ones, but set a new all-time high record!
Your contributions helped us surpass our goal. This
accomplishment was achieved by the outstanding efforts
of many alumni, parents, local businesses and friends from
all over the country who so generously support Catholic
education. Gifts to this year’s Appeal ranged anywhere from
$10 to $10,000, and each and every gift is truly appreciated!
Because of the generosity of gifts received from the Annual
Appeal, the Foundation was able to distribute over $340,000
to the high school during the 2009-2010 school year, which
helped with the following:
• Assisted in bridging the gap between tuition charged and
the cost of educating our students (gap was $1,135)
• Provided tuition assistance and scholarship aid to 63
students valued at $29,175
• Provided overall support of our operating budget (including
teacher salaries)
As of April 27, participation rose to 1,603 gifts. In total Pius
X raised over $206,000 and is the most in Annual Appeal
history! Of this amount, approximately $10,500 has been
designated for endowed scholarships. Pledges are currently
trickling in, and every donation, large or small, is greatly
appreciated. If you haven’t given to the Annual Appeal yet,
you still have time! We can receive donations for this year’s
Appeal until June 30, which is the end of our fiscal year.
Serving on the committee to head this worthwhile project
were John ’80 and Kelly ’80 Morehouse, alumni chairs,
and Therese Sack ’78, alumni co-chair. Parent chairs were
Patti Clarence and Georgeanne Rashilla (freshman chairs),
Darla Ernst and Kathy Rentschler (sophomore chairs),
Laura Duggan and Joe and Sophia Werning (junior chairs)
and Nancy Johnson and K.C. Williams (senior chairs). The
enthusiasm shared by these chairpersons was fantastic and
the momentum spread to once again guarantee the success of
this important endeavor.
The entire Pius X family appreciates all of the support the
school has received in making this dream a reality for the
young people we serve.
Summary of Annual Appeal donations as of April 27, 2010
Group Goal Cash Received
Alumni/Cathedral: $110,000 $103,830
Pius X High School is proud of the stewardship of its funds.
The mission of the Lincoln Catholic Schools has always been
to keep tuition at an affordable level for all families. The cost
per student is a little over $5,000. This compares to an average
state cost of $10,060 per student (2007-2008 numbers). For the
2009-2010 school year, tuition and fees made up 32.51 percent
of our school’s operating budget. The above chart shows a
comparison to other faith-based schools in Lincoln and the
Archdiocese of Omaha.
First annual Honorary/Memorial
Mass held
A wish come true
Every school year, the faculty and staff at Pius X prepare
a “wish list” of items they would like to have for their
classroom. From November 2009 to April 2010, over $15,100
has been donated to our list. Thank you! What a difference
you make for our students!
Please contact the Foundation Office if you would like to
make a donation to the Wish List by calling (402) 488-1046 or
e-mail michelle.birkel@piusx.net. Thanks so much for your
generosity and making our wishes come true!
On April 13, the first annual Annual Appeal Honorary/
Memorial Mass was celebrated in the Pius X Chapel.
During the 2009-2010 Annual Appeal, many donations
of $100 or more came from generous alumni, parents
and friends of Pius X that were made in memory or in
honor of loved ones. We prayed for the happy repose
of the souls who have gone before us, as well as those
chosen to be honored by our donors.
Following Mass, guests enjoyed a small reception in
the commons area. Refreshments were served, and
guests viewed a slide show of all of the tribute names
and photos.
Leaving your
legacy...
For many, there is a compelling need to make a
difference – to leave a lasting legacy for your family and
community. At Pius X, we have witnessed the countless
ways in which people have changed the lives of our
students, by their generous gifts to the school and to
the endowment fund upon their deaths. These gifts are
everlasting and ensure the future of Catholic education.
Have you made provisions in your will and estate
planning for a gift to Pius X High School or the
Foundation?
Our St. Pius X Legacy Society is a group of individuals
or couples who have come forward and shared the
wonderful news that they plan to remember Pius X
with a planned gift and to promote the idea of planned
giving. There are no membership fees or meetings to
attend. The specific amount of the gift does not need to
be given when informing Pius X.
As a member of this Society, individuals are recognized
in our Foundation’s Annual Report and invited to a
special Founder’s Day Mass and reception every year in
October. If you would like to become a member of the
Pius X Legacy Society, please contact Michelle Birkel
Marie Eickhoff receives $1,000 Optimal Dental Scholarship
Congratulations to Marie Eickhoff who
was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship
from Optimal Dental. Marie is the
daughter of Ron and Diane Eickhoff of St.
Teresa’s parish in Lincoln.
Dr. Dustin Bailey ’91 created this
scholarship in 2008. “The Optimal Dental Scholarship was
established to help a graduating Pius X senior attain their
dream of higher education,” said Dr. Dustin Bailey. “Both Dr.
Ganser ’63 and myself feel Pius X High School was a huge
stepping stone in the development of success we enjoy now
as dental professionals. Thanks to the generosity of others
through scholarships, we were able to offset the cost of our
own education. We are happy to pay back those opportunities
to the students of Pius.”
Applicants applying for this scholarship must complete an
essay about their college plans and future career aspirations.
Current seniors at Pius X who plan to attend a two or four
year college in the United States, have a 3.0 grade point
average or above and show evidence of extra-curricular
involvement and volunteer work in the Lincoln community
are eligible to apply.
Jeff Dodd Memorial Scholarship will benefit Pius X students
Thanks to the generosity
of Kelly Dodd and
Pius X classmates and
friends of Jeff Dodd,
a scholarship has been
established in the Pius
X Foundation in his
memory. Jeff Dodd, a
1991 alumnus of Pius
X High School, has left behind a legacy that will benefit our
students for many years to come.
Jeff attended St. Teresa’s and Cathedral schools and then
Pius X High School. He continued his education studying at
Notre Dame and in Ireland, earning degrees in English and
Philosophy with an emphasis in the study of Irish Literature.
Jeff was a highly involved student who participated in many
activities and organizations. He loved every aspect of high
school, from the classroom to the activities, to making great
friends, and he had a lot of them! He also held jobs to pay for
his own tuition to attend Pius X.
Jeff was a devoted and loving husband and father to his
family and chose to work from home to be closer to his
wife Kelly and his children Aubrey, Regan, Jack, and Finn.
He passed away in September 2008 after a long battle with
melanoma.
On Sept. 5, 2009, approximately 100 adults and 50 children
participated in the Fun Run at Holmes Park. The event was a
great way for family and friends to visit and share memories
of Jeff. In addition to the fun, there was also over $4,100
raised for the Jeff Dodd Memorial Scholarship fund. These
proceeds brought the total scholarship fund to above $10,000,
making the scholarship an endowed fund and ensuring Jeff’s
legacy at Pius X.
“Jeff was a true friend to all of us in every sense of the
word,” said Dr. Dustin Bailey, a good friend and classmate
of Jeff’s. “Jeff worked hard all his life to earn his own way
through his education. I know this may have led him to miss
other opportunities in life during this time. The endowment
of this scholarship will help many young students achieve
their academic dreams, and help provide enough financial
relief along the way to occasionally stop and smell the roses.”
Pius X would like to thank everyone who participated in this
fun event by running/walking and to all benefactors who
contribute to the scholarship in Jeff’s name. On behalf of the
students, faculty and staff at Pius X, our thoughts and prayers
go out to the Dodd family.
Jeff was on both the cross country and track teams during
high school, so some friends thought it would be only fitting
to hold a Fun Run/Walk in his honor.
New artificial turf project in progress at Aldrich Field
“There has been incredible support from the handful of
individuals involved with this project,” said Michelle
Birkel, Development Director. “We have many alumni,
parents and friends who regularly support Lincoln’s
only Catholic high school with gifts of various sizes. We
continue to be pleased and amazed that so many people are
willing to help. This investment will benefit our students
and families for decades.”
This summer, Pius X High School is replacing the sod on
Aldrich Field with new artificial turf. The $525,000 project is
underway with a completion deadline of Aug. 1, 2010.
An anonymous donor offered a lead challenge gift for the
specific purpose of equipping Aldrich Field with turf. At the
current time, Pius X has other financial priorities including
increasing faculty and staff salaries, building a kitchen (2010
BOLT dinner and auction dollars will be used for this), a new
Performing Arts Center and renovating the locker rooms. At
the same time, the A Tradition of Faith campaign and other
Catholic campaigns in Lincoln are ongoing or in the initial
stages. However, this opportunity could not be ignored. The
initial donor took the initiative of asking others for help in
this challenge project, and over $455,000 has been raised to
date. We are very thankful for the lead and supporting gifts.
The artificial turf will provide many benefits, including the
reduction of impact injuries as athletes will play on a safer
and more uniform surface. Aldrich Field will no longer be
exclusively reserved for use during home football games,
but will instead be available for football and soccer games,
marching band rehearsals, P.E. classes, athletic practices
and more. The only regular maintenance requirement will
be raking the field a few times a year, and expenses for
watering, mowing, and fertilizing will be eliminated. In
addition, the grass practice facilities behind the school will
stay in better condition, allowing more activities to take
place on site.
“This project will have a huge impact on Pius X,” said
Tim Aylward, Athletic Director. “Not only will it provide a
tremendous venue for our teams, band and students to play
and practice on, but it will show that we continue to care
about our students and the quality of the facilities at our
school.”
Pius X holds annual retreat day
On March 15, Pius X held its 11th annual Retreat Day for its
sophomore, junior and senior students.
The sophomore retreat theme was “Respect: Respect for
God, Self and Others.” At the boys’ retreat, students listened
to three speakers, Bill Schlautman, a math teacher at Pius
X, Jeff Schinstock, Coordinator of Youth Ministry for the
Diocese of Lincoln and Michael
Zimmer, seminarian for the Diocese
of Lincoln. A dodge ball tournament
was one of the highlights of their day.
At the girls’ site, they heard talks
from Fr. Joseph Faulkner, theology
teacher at Pius X, Molly Davies,
director of the Magis – Catholic
Teacher Service Corps and from
college student Ryan Heier. They
also enjoyed a skit and discussion
with the drama group R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
from Omaha.
The junior retreat theme was
“Servant Leadership.” They began
their day by listening to Molly
Davies and created skits that helped
them understand what it means to
be a servant leader. For part of their
day, the juniors went to 25 various
organizations and volunteered for
a service project. Organizations
included Villa Marie, St. Mary’s,
St. Patrick’s and St. John’s Schools,
Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, the
Peoples’ City Mission, St. Vincent de
Paul, The Gathering Place, Madonna
Rehabilitation Hospital, Partners in
Recovery, the Marian Sisters, the
School Sisters of Christ the King,
Bright Lights, City Impact, Clark
Jeary, Clyde Malone Community
Center, Friendship Home, Habitat for
Humanity, the Indian Center, KVSS
Spirit Catholic Radio, Pius X High
School, Sewing for Babies, Tabitha
– Meals on Wheels and the YWCA.
Over 800 hours of community service
were performed, and over 40 parents
volunteered to drive the students and
participate in the day with them!
Photos courtesy of the yearbook staff
At the senior retreat, the students
gathered together for a breakfast prepared by St. Peter’s Food
Service Staff, which was paid for through donations from the
senior parents. Taylor Ashburn’s reflection framed the retreat
for all the seniors as he spoke to them during breakfast.
After the breakfast, the boys and girls went to separate sites
for the remainder of their retreat. The senior boys examined
various aspects of Catholic manhood in their future roles as
husbands, fathers or priests. They heard from Fr. Buhman,
Doug Barry, John Hyland, Tom
Korta and a panel of college students
during the day. The ladies witnessed
powerful examples of faith in Pius
X teachers Katie Elsener, Sally
Burt and superintendent, Fr. Jim
Meysenburg. The speakers focused on
the power of prayer in their lives and
the importance of faith. The girls also
asked questions to the college panel of
recent Pius X graduates, and enjoyed
a period of personal testimony which
focused on their reliance in God and
prayer during times of struggle.
All five of the retreats had a
Eucharistic Holy Hour with an
opportunity for Confession, and
they also had time to participate in
small groups led by parents, faculty,
college students and other volunteers.
The retreat officially concluded on
Tuesday morning with a closing allschool
Mass celebrated by Fr. Joseph
Faulkner.
The faculty and staff at Pius X led
by Fr. Joseph Bernardo, Sr. Veronica
Volkmer, Tom Korta, Jan Frayser
and Emily Wyatt, were responsible
for planning and leading the retreats.
Nearly 200 volunteers helped to make
this retreat day a reality. Pius X is
grateful for all of the support from the
priests and religious of our diocese, as
well as parents, alumni, and all other
volunteers. It would not be possible
without the generosity of so many
supporters of Pius X!
National Walk for Life
by Melanie Stara
“The purpose of civil government
is to protect life; abandon that,
and you have abandoned all.” This
quote from Thomas Jefferson was
written on a sign that I read during
the National March for Life in
Washington, D.C. on Jan. 22, 2010. The March for
Life protests the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade
decision legalizing abortion.
I am sure you have heard about the recent record
breaking blizzards in Washington, D.C. There was a
“storm” of a different kind that descended upon our
nation’s capital on Jan. 22, 2010. I was privileged to
be a part of that “storm” of more than 350,000 pro-life
demonstrators who showed their support for the prolife
movement. It was estimated that 75 percent of the
group was under the age of 25.
We began with a youth rally at the Verizon Center in
Washington, D.C. We then marched along Constitution
Avenue to Capitol Hill and the U.S. Supreme
Court. The day before the march, we met with our
congressman, Jeff Fortenberry. He gave us words of
encouragement to continue our efforts at defending
God’s greatest gift, the gift of life.
Despite the lack of national media coverage of the
37th Annual March for Life, I was encouraged by the
fact that the people attending the march are increasing
in number every year. I believe with our continued
prayers the pro-life movement will become even
stronger. Someday our government will return to the
purpose of protecting the sanctity of human life.
Pius X hosts annual New
Student Orientation
Approximately 325 families attended the annual New
Student Orientation on Feb. 8, where prospective
students in the Lincoln community and their parents
visited the school to learn about its offerings.
Superintendent, Rev. James Meysenburg, welcomed
them and principal, Tom Korta, and guidance director,
Jan Frayser, presented them with an overview of the
school’s academic performance history and class
registration guidelines. Student Council president, Sean
Flattery, also welcomed them and shared his experiences
as a student.
Last fall the Bolts boy’s tennis team recorded an
outstanding season with first place finishes in the Omaha
Skutt and Pius X Invitationals and placed second in the
Capital City and Spartan Invitationals. In duals, the team
posted a 10-1 record and won the District Championship.
Despite rain delays at the state meet, the team remained
focused to amass points in all divisions for a final score of
37½. Sophomore, Trevor Milburn, played #1 Singles and
advanced to the semifinals where he lost to Waverly. In
the consolation match he bounced back to defeat York to
capture third place.
The #1 Doubles team was comprised of seniors, Zach Peed
and Garrett Sutton. Carrying a rare undefeated record into
State, the duo fought an uphill battle against Holdrege in
the semifinals. After losing the first set and being down 1-5
in the second, the seniors rallied back and won the match
(2-6, 7-5, 6-2). The pair went on to defeat Hastings in the
final to remain undefeated with a season record of 29-0.
Afterward, the attendees were given tours of the
school and visited booths hosted by various student
organizations and athletic teams. Although the orientation
night primarily focused on new students, a contest was
held to determine which booths best demonstrated Pius X
school spirit, while conveying its mission - “To Restore
All Things in Christ.”
After tabulating votes, the Pro Life Club received first
place and the FCT Club was awarded second place in
the “most original” category; the SOADA Club was
awarded first and the Vocal Music group was awarded
second place for best representation of club theme; the
Landscaping Club was awarded first and the School
Newspaper was awarded second place for having the best
interaction with new students.
If you would like more information about Pius X High
School or have questions about registration, please
The #2 Singles player, senior, Brandon Otoski, defeated
Grand Island Central Catholic in the semifinals. He then
fought through three sets to upset the top seed, Elkhorn
Mount Michael, in the finals to capture the gold.
The #2 Doubles team consisted of juniors, Brian Harshman
and Nick Jenkins. The pair lost in a third set to Waverly
in the semifinals but battled back against York in the
consolation match to take the third place medal.
Students receive nominations to top military academies
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry selected 13 students from
eastern Nebraska to receive nominations to America’s top
demonstrate sound character, rigorous scholarship and capacity
Nebraskans who meet these qualifications.”
The 27 students in the Class of 1924 gave us three religious
vocations. One of those was Fr. John Knopp who entered the
Society of Jesus in September l924. Fr. Knopp, a missionary,
volunteered for the Belize Mission after the 1931 hurricane.
One of his main achievements as Superior of the Mission was
the rebuilding of St. John’s College in Belize.
The Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Belize, British Honduras
wrote that “Father Knopp died at 49 and was buried in his
native State (Nebraska) where he was scarcely known but
British Honduras is immeasurably richer for his having used
up life in a hurry here where he was well known.” The Pastor
there also wrote that what Father Knopp started is very much
alive and as with the Kingdom of Christ, there is a capable
successor laboring to complete what Father Knopp began.
Sister Veronica celebrates golden jubilee
Sister Veronica Volkmer, Pius X’s
religion department chair, is celebrating
her fiftieth jubilee of her profession of
vows this year. She joined the Marian
Sisters Community (formerly the
Mercy Sisters of St. Francis) in 1958.
“I remember the night when it
hit me what a great treasure our
faith is,” Sister Veronica
said. “I recognized that Jesus
understood every human need
and had given us a loving
Church that provided for those
needs. It was then that I decided
that I should do something with
my faith.”
Sister Veronica was born to
Leo and Laurine Volkmer and
was the first of seven children.
She graduated from St. Bernard
Academy (now Lourdes Central High School) in Nebraska
City in 1953 and attended Brescia College in Kentucky.
After teaching three years in public elementary schools, she
entered the convent upon making a weekend retreat in 1958.
After the profession of her first vows and teaching at St.
John’s School for a year, Sister was sent back to school to
receive a degree in secondary education with endorsements
in theology, philosophy, and English in 1963. She earned a
Masters in Christian Spirituality from Creighton University
in 1983.
After teaching two years in the Pauline Catechetical Center
in Holdrege from 1963-65, she was assigned to teach at
Bishop Neumann High
School in Wahoo for
eleven years. She left
Neumann to become
formation director
for the Marian Sisters
Community, a post
that she held for ten
years. She then served
at St. Andrew School
in Tecumseh for two
years before being
elected as the major superior of the Marian Sisters in 1988.
After serving two terms as superior, she went back to school
for a year to renew her teaching certificate before she began
teaching at Pius X High School in 1995, where she now
serves as chair of the theology department.
In reflecting on what things she has learned during her
fifty years as a Marian Sister, Sister Veronica is quick to
respond with “the power of prayer!” “I have seen so many
small miracles that have come through the power of prayer,
including a big miracle of my own recovery from cancer,”
she said. “I have in particular seen many miracles that have
come through praying the daily rosary.”
Three teachers to attend
Leadership Institute
Connealy & Schonewise receive
grant for Rwanda pilgrimage
English teachers Jane Connealy and Julie Schonewise
have been selected as 2010 Fund for Teachers Fellows.
The two educators wrote a grant proposal that will
fund $10,000 and allow them to travel on a religious
pilgrimage to Rwanda in August.
Jane Connealy, Tom Seib and Katie Elsener have been selected
to attend the Leadership Institute offered through the Holocaust
Educators Network and National Writing Project in New York
City. All three complete the “Reading, Writing and Teaching
the Holocaust” summer seminar. They will design and lead a
professional development seminar on teaching to Holocaust,
which will be open to all Nebraska teachers in the summer of
2011.
The two will travel with Immaculee Ilibagiza, author
of the book Left to Tell, which details her survival of
the Rwanda genocide. The pilgrimage will include
a retreat at Cana Center at the Shrine of Our Lady
of Kibeho, which was the cite of several Marian
apparitions to three adolescents in the 1980s.
Connealy and Schonewise will use this experience in
their classrooms and Ilibagiza will speak to the Pius X
student body next fall.
