DIVA 4 and EFA 10 - Paradigm Change at the VVS

DIVA on the Waterfront
DIVA system users met for the 49th user
group in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Sunshine and strong winds greeted the 79 participants
from Germany, Austria and Switzerland
at the 49th user group in the ATLANTC
Hotel Sail City.
The venue provided a professional background
for this ‘operations’ user group, with its attached
conference center wonderfully located near the
‘Hafenwelten’ directly at the Weser Delta.
After arriving on Wednesday, participants met
at the get-together on the boat restaurant
‘Seute Deern’ to eat fish specialties, drink local
beer from the Bremen breweries and get
acquainted (or reacquainted) with one another.
The Beck's ship, the ‘Alexander von Humboldt’,
sailed past the conference center window the
next day, adding to the welcome given by Mr.
Robert Haase, the managing director of Bremerhaven
AG. Mr. Haase also gave interesting
insights into the structural changes in the city
of Bremerhaven.
The main focus of this user group was operational
DIVA 4. Dr. Mentz spoke in detail about the
release planning, gave a peak into the ‘inner
workings’ of DIVA 4 development and explained
the development and test environments as
well as the strategies at mdv.
In subsequent talks, innovations in DIVA 4 were
presented in detail. Every aspect of operational
planning from network planning to deployment
was illuminated. Garnering particular
interest were the topics of AVM Light and
‘simple’ vehicle scheduling with DIVA 4. Two
highlights of this series of talks were the live
demonstrations of the control center at the VRN
and insight into the deployment work in Abu
Dhabi.
Presentations were also made about DIVA
Publisher and EFA 10, giving participants the
latest developments regarding mdv passenger
information products and newest version of
EFA.
The final group of talks addressed the data platform
(DDIP) and work with Oracle as a database
system.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So
when participants took a tour through the Bremerhaven
Climate House, they joined an exciting
journey along the eighth longitude. The 90
minute trip started in Bremerhaven and led
over Switzerland, through the desert and rainforest,
all the way around the globe so that participants
could feel the effects of changing climates
first-hand.
A magnificent dinner in the captain‘s lounge of
the Atlantic Hotel enriched the experience and
the successful conference was topped off by a
spectacular view of the port.
We look forward to the 50th user group in
Munich.
