<strong>DIVA</strong> on <strong>the</strong> W<strong>at</strong>erfront<br />

<strong>DIVA</strong> system users met for <strong>the</strong> 49th user<br />

group in Bremerhaven, Germany.<br />

Sunshine <strong>and</strong> strong winds greeted <strong>the</strong> 79 participants<br />

from Germany, Austria <strong>and</strong> Switzerl<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> 49th user group in <strong>the</strong> ATLANTC<br />

Hotel Sail City.<br />

The venue provided a professional background<br />

for this ‘oper<strong>at</strong>ions’ user group, with its <strong>at</strong>tached<br />

conference center wonderfully loc<strong>at</strong>ed near <strong>the</strong><br />

‘Hafenwelten’ directly <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> Weser Delta.<br />

After arriving on Wednesday, participants met<br />

<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> get-toge<strong>the</strong>r on <strong>the</strong> bo<strong>at</strong> restaurant<br />

‘Seute Deern’ to e<strong>at</strong> fish specialties, drink local<br />

beer from <strong>the</strong> Bremen breweries <strong>and</strong> get<br />

acquainted (or reacquainted) with one ano<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

The Beck's ship, <strong>the</strong> ‘Alex<strong>and</strong>er von Humboldt’,<br />

sailed past <strong>the</strong> conference center window <strong>the</strong><br />

next day, adding to <strong>the</strong> welcome given by Mr.<br />

Robert Haase, <strong>the</strong> managing director of Bremerhaven<br />

AG. Mr. Haase also gave interesting<br />

insights into <strong>the</strong> structural changes in <strong>the</strong> city<br />

of Bremerhaven.<br />

The main focus of this user group was oper<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

<strong>DIVA</strong> 4. Dr. Mentz spoke in detail about <strong>the</strong><br />

release planning, gave a peak into <strong>the</strong> ‘inner<br />

workings’ of <strong>DIVA</strong> 4 development <strong>and</strong> explained<br />

<strong>the</strong> development <strong>and</strong> test environments as<br />

well as <strong>the</strong> str<strong>at</strong>egies <strong>at</strong> mdv.<br />

In subsequent talks, innov<strong>at</strong>ions in <strong>DIVA</strong> 4 were<br />

presented in detail. Every aspect of oper<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

planning from network planning to deployment<br />

was illumin<strong>at</strong>ed. Garnering particular<br />

interest were <strong>the</strong> topics of AVM Light <strong>and</strong><br />

‘simple’ vehicle scheduling with <strong>DIVA</strong> 4. Two<br />

highlights of this series of talks were <strong>the</strong> live<br />

demonstr<strong>at</strong>ions of <strong>the</strong> control center <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> VRN<br />

<strong>and</strong> insight into <strong>the</strong> deployment work in Abu<br />

Dhabi.<br />

Present<strong>at</strong>ions were also made about <strong>DIVA</strong><br />

Publisher <strong>and</strong> <strong>EFA</strong> <strong>10</strong>, giving participants <strong>the</strong><br />

l<strong>at</strong>est developments regarding mdv passenger<br />

inform<strong>at</strong>ion products <strong>and</strong> newest version of<br />

<strong>EFA</strong>.<br />

The final group of talks addressed <strong>the</strong> d<strong>at</strong>a pl<strong>at</strong>form<br />

(DDIP) <strong>and</strong> work with Oracle as a d<strong>at</strong>abase<br />

system.<br />

All work <strong>and</strong> no play makes Jack a dull boy. So<br />

when participants took a tour through <strong>the</strong> Bremerhaven<br />

Clim<strong>at</strong>e House, <strong>the</strong>y joined an exciting<br />

journey along <strong>the</strong> eighth longitude. The 90<br />

minute trip started in Bremerhaven <strong>and</strong> led<br />

over Switzerl<strong>and</strong>, through <strong>the</strong> desert <strong>and</strong> rainforest,<br />

all <strong>the</strong> way around <strong>the</strong> globe so th<strong>at</strong> participants<br />

could feel <strong>the</strong> effects of changing clim<strong>at</strong>es<br />

first-h<strong>and</strong>.<br />

A magnificent dinner in <strong>the</strong> captain‘s lounge of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Atlantic Hotel enriched <strong>the</strong> experience <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> successful conference was topped off by a<br />

spectacular view of <strong>the</strong> port.<br />

We look forward to <strong>the</strong> 50th user group in<br />

Munich.<br />

After paying close <strong>at</strong>tention...<br />

<strong>and</strong> talking shot in <strong>the</strong> coffee breaks...<br />

participants could relax <strong>and</strong> enjoy <strong>the</strong> view from above <strong>the</strong> port<br />

Mr. Robert Haase, Managing Director of Bremerhaven<br />

AG, spoke about <strong>the</strong> structural changes in<br />

Bremerhaven
