Central Data Platform for
Real-time Data (NVBW)
The NVBW (Transport Authority
of Baden-Württemberg)
has contracted mdv to create a
state-wide central data platform
for real-time data from all over Baden-
Württemberg and its neighboring regions. In a
first phase, local rail data will be integrated into
the SSB. This information will also be fed into
the EFA-BW journey planner, where it will be
used for real-time journey planning. The basis
for the journey planner is the ongoing conversion
of NVBW-systems to DIVA 4 and EFA 10. In
the future other data suppliers and recipients
will be added to the central data platform.
External Audit at mdv
An external audit was conducted from 27 - 29
September 2011 in which mdv was positively
rated, resulting in an ISO 9001:2008 certificate
for an additional 3 years. Once again, mdv’s dayto-day
diligence regarding quality management
was rewarded in the annual evaluations
made by the TUV Rheinland Group.
The newest audit reaffirms mdv’s commitment
to the company’s quality management policy,
which emphasizes the sustainability of mdv
products and services and the transparency of
internal and external processes.
mdv in UK
We are pleased to have a
growing number of customers
in England, who we
aim to assist with customized
development and quality
support. So on July 6th,
we founded the newest mdv
subsidiary under the name
mdv software for public transport LTD. Our new
office is located in the coastal town of Ipswich,
Northeast of London. We have begun to support
customers in England with the help of Ian
Gray, our new English colleague. At the same
time, resources have been freed up for other
data services.
EFA in Belfast
Northern Ireland has decided to plan journeys
using EFA. The capital of Belfast has approx. 1.7
million people which are actually citizens of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain. The tender
was announced by ‘Translink’, which includes
Northern Ireland Railways (NIR), the Ulsterbus
transport company and the Belfast City Metro.
By awarding the journey planner to mdv, it is
now possible to plan journeys throughout Ireland
(Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland).
The decision was only made by the ‘National
Transport Authority of the Republic of Ireland’
(NTA) to work with DIVA and EFA in the
summer of 2011.
Mobile Apps for the
iPhone and Android
in Sydney
Transport Info, the
mdv timetable app
for the iPhone and
Android for Sydney
has recently been
released, but has become quite
popular within only a very short period of time.
It is used by commuters and travelers. Transport
Info is based on the same EFA system that is
used for the www.131500.com.au journey planner.
The apps were officially announced by
Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW):
http://transport.nsw.gov.au/media-releases/customer-friendly-transport-information-now-available.
The apps are part of TfNSW’s new concept for
the 131500 system. All transport information
are made available through multiple channels
for the entire state of New South Wales from a
central location. The information is consistent
throughout due to the central approach and
also has the same good quality. Burt the iPhone
/Android apps are only one of many channels.
In the coming months, the goal is to expand the
contents and functions of the entire 131500
system.
DIVA at the Cape of Good Hope
Within the scope of a tender, the city authorities
of Cape Town decided to institute
the DIVA Schedule Management System.
The transport system in the picturesque
city was aiming for a higher degree of professionalization,
which is set to be accomplished
using both a vehicle control system
and DIVA for operational planning.
The timetable and vehicle scheduling
have already started being run with DIVA,
and the AVM system is being used for the
first few routes. In the coming months, the
entire network will be integrated into the
planning process.
