EXTINGUISHING MEDIA<br />

• Water spray or fog.<br />

• Foam.<br />

• Dry chemical powder.<br />

• BCF (where regulations permit).<br />

FIRE FIGHTING<br />

• Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard.<br />

• Wear full body protective clothing with breathing apparatus.<br />

• Prevent, by any means available, spillage from entering drains or water course.<br />

• Use fire fighting procedures suitable for surrounding area.<br />

FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARD<br />

• Non combustible.<br />

• Not considered to be a significant fire risk.<br />

• Acids may react with metals to produce hydrogen, a highly flammable and explosive gas.<br />

• Heating may cause expansion or decomposition leading to violent rupture of containers.<br />

Other decomposition products include: phosphorus oxides (POx).<br />

Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES<br />

MINOR SPILLS<br />

Clean up all spills immediately.<br />

Avoid contact with skin and eyes.<br />

Wear protective neoprene gloves and chemical goggles.<br />

Use soda ash or slaked lime to neutralise.<br />

Wipe up and absorb small quantities with vermiculite or other absorbent material.<br />

Place in suitable containers for disposal.<br />

Wash spill area with large quantities of water.<br />

MAJOR SPILLS<br />

• Clear area of personnel and move upwind.<br />

• Alert Fire Brigade and tell them location and nature of hazard.<br />

• Wear full body protective clothing with breathing apparatus.<br />

• Prevent, by any means available, spillage from entering drains or water course.<br />

Personal Protective Equipment advice is contained in Section 8 of the <strong>MSDS</strong>.<br />

Section 7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE<br />

PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING<br />

• Avoid all personal contact, including inhalation.<br />

• Wear protective clothing when risk of exposure occurs.<br />

• Use in a well-ventilated area.<br />

• WARNING: To avoid violent reaction, ALWAYS add material to water and NEVER water to material.<br />

SUITABLE CONTAINER<br />

Plastic carboy.<br />

Polyethylene or polypropylene container.<br />

Polylined drum.<br />

• Check that containers are clearly labelled.<br />

• Packaging as recommended by manufacturer.<br />

STORAGE INCOMPATIBILITY<br />

Avoid storage with strong alkalis, common metals and<br />
