These non-invasive natives of South
Africa and South America produce mostly 5
petaled flowers on 3, sometimes 4 leafed plants
that make wonderful mounds in our garden from
June-October. They‛re particularly wonderful in
partial shade, but don‛t seem fussy about being in
full sun even during our hot, humid summers. They
also are effective ‘shoes and socks‛ plants with
larger bulbs and perennials in the garden, in patio
planters and around the edges of houseplants;
foolproof plants that seem to be pest resistant,
too! Blooms early summer to frost; 10 per sq. ft.;
zones 7-10. Top-sized 4-6 cm bulbs and tubers.

Lots of tubular, super fragrant, white
blossoms with incredibly thick, waxy substance
bloom on top of 18”-24” stems with foliage that
is 1‛ tall. If the bulbs are planted in the spring,
they bloom in late summer. However, when they
overwinter, they bloom earlier and seem to last
forever. Bulbs can be started indoors for early
bloom, and should be if you live in a climate with a
short summer season (see our heat mat on pg. 11).
