Brent and Becky‛s Bulb Supplement If you want to
fertilize with organic fertilizer, top-dress with
this 5-10-12 formula; bulbs thrive on it! It‛s
primary element is cricket manure with the addition
of rock phosphate, bonemeal, blood meal,
dolomitic limestone, granite meal and compost. We
incorporate about 4 lbs. per 50 sq. ft. in the soil
before planting. Broadcast it every fall thereafter;
in bags. Note: Shipping charges on this item
cost much more than the allotted 10% or 15%. If
you come to The Bulb Shoppe to pick-up, the item
with the ‘-S’ is the one you should order.

Great Bulb Gardening Gloves
We do enjoy gardening,
but have such a hard time
getting our fingernails
clean when we have to
dress up and go out in
public. Wearing gloves
has been difficult because
we couldn‛t find
ones that allowed us to
feel the plants. Also, my
hands are so small that
I normally have to buy
gloves in the children‛s
department! All that

Stake - Believe it or not, most bulbs
and plants are very forgiving as far
as planting depth is concerned. However,
this is a great tool for those
of you who like to double check the
depth ‘to the bottom of the hole‛;
for our zone 7b garden, so if you‛re
in a much colder area, perhaps a bit
deeper; in a much warmer area, perhaps
not as deep. It‛s a great tool
for the office as well; yellow so it‛s
difficult to loose; vinyl so it‛s difficult

We live right on a tributary of the Chesapeake
Bay. Every year, we hear that our
wonderful Bay is dying a little more each
year. The government has stepped in to
monitor industries and farmers and they
have ‘cleaned up their act’. However, we
as home gardeners also contribute to the
polution of the water by over fertilizing
and using heavy chemicals on lawns and
gardens. Brent and I now use only compost
and no chemical fertilizers on our
property in hopes that what we do will
make some difference. We encourage
all of you to search your heart and look
at what you use to see if, as a group, we
can all make a difference together!
Water Gardening is fast becoming a popular garden activity and many summer flowering bulbs and perennials
are suitable for just such garden situations. We understand that Alocasia, Caladium, Canna, Colocasia, Hedychium,
Hymenocallis, Oxalis and the aethiopica types of Zantedeschia are a few that should put on a good show
when planted in a pot that is submerged just below the surface of a shallow pool. Check the chart in the middle
