Well known as a graceful cut flower especially<br />

in elegant, large flower arrangements, what<br />

may not be known about this plant is its adaptability.<br />

We have grown them successfully in a flower<br />

border along with other bulbs <strong>and</strong> perennials, but<br />

the aethiopica types also grow happily at water‛s<br />

edge or even potted up <strong>and</strong> submerged - pot <strong>and</strong> all<br />

- in the shallow end of our pond. Native to South<br />

Africa, its graceful, vase-like flowers bloom from<br />

mid through late summer; 1-3 per sq. ft.; 12”-18”<br />

<strong>and</strong> zones 8-10 except where noted; mid summer<br />

bloomer; 14+cm bulbs.<br />
