Native to China <strong>and</strong> the Himalayas <strong>and</strong><br />

grown for its interesting growth habit <strong>and</strong> foliage,<br />

it looks a bit like a miniature fountain with cascading<br />

‘sweet pea‛ or orchid-like flowers; flowers<br />

bloom one at a time but continue to bloom from<br />

mid/late summer through the fall; best planted on<br />

a sheltered bank or a well-drained partly shady,<br />

woodl<strong>and</strong> garden with rich humus, acidic soil; wants<br />

moisture when growing but was to be dry when<br />

dormant; 1-3 per sq. ft.;12”-18”; top-sized root<br />

stock; the books say zones 6-9 but we‛ve seen it<br />

growing as a hardy plant in a garden in Toronto<br />

climate to perform; with those<br />

conditions, will continue<br />

to bloom profusely if<br />

grown in extremely welldrained<br />

soil <strong>and</strong> full sun.<br />

Provide some support,<br />

as it‛s a climber <strong>and</strong><br />

has tendrils which will<br />

wrap around a trellis or<br />
