Perspectives From Fr. Kurt: Our Parish Family
Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
September 9, 2012
Dear St. Patrick Parish Family:
As you know by now, I have asked our professional staff to write in my “usual space” about what they do and the jobs I
have asked them to take on here at St. Patrick. Please accept this installment from Cathy Barrett. Cathy is listed as
our “Religious Education Assistant” officially on the cover of the bulletin, but to leave her description at that does not
really give you a picture of her actual role and what she does here at St. Patrick. I would like to thank Cathy for her
hard work and dedication over these past several years and I am so proud of Cathy for going back to school to further
her career in Social Work.
Peace,
My name is Cathy Barrett and I presently serve as the Religious Education Assistant.
Over the last several years, my titles here at St. Patrick have changed immensely. In 2005, I served
as a volunteer on the Parish Census Committee. The committee conducted a complete parish census
and implemented the Parish Soft Program. Shortly after the census was done, Fr. Mike Cronin asked
if I would stay on, not as a volunteer but rather as a part time employee, in order to maintain the
Parish Soft Program, which contains a broad range of information relating to the parish and its
parishioners.
Since then my roles at the parish have continually changed to help where needed. While I still work with Parish
Soft by inputting the weekly contribution envelopes, preparing end of the year tax
statements for parishioners, and generating various reports when needed, I also have
other duties. My primary role at St. Pat's for the last five years has been to assist Linda
O'Connor, the Director of the Religious Education Program and until May of this year,
I also assisted Linda in her role as Liturgy Director.
Many of my responsibilities are clerical in nature, although I do help with a variety of miscellaneous tasks. One of
the highlights of my job is Wednesday evening when Religious Ed is in session. It is here that I witness the many
volunteers in action as they help prepare our children by teaching them about our faith. In addition, I have the
opportunity to see the children in their eagerness to learn about God and the Church. Being a part of this vital
parish ministry has strengthened my belief that sharing our faith with our children is imperative, as they are the
future of the Church.
I also serve the parish as a volunteer, along with Bob Porter, co-chairing the Annual Catholic Appeal. For the last
several years we have had successful appeals with almost every year receiving a rebate check to the parish from the
Appeal. I will again work on the Appeal in January 2013.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the parish in so many different aspects. I have had
the opportunity to meet many wonderful people within the parish, and have seen firsthand,
their devotion to our Lord. Although we are a small parish, we continue to thrive due to the
dedication of our staff and parishioners.
As the future unfolds, I am not quite sure what the Lord holds for me here at St. Patrick Parish,
but I will go where He leads me. In the last several years I have learned to follow Proverbs 3:5.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding. I will continue to
enjoy the journey the Lord has prepared for me.
Peace and God's blessings,
Cathy Barrett

SPRED Informational Gathering
All are invited to a SPRED informational meeting
at Sts. Cyril and Methodius parish on Monday,
September 17, 2012. It will be held at 7pm in the
teacher’s lounge of the school. The SPRED ministry
provides an opportunity for children and young adults
with developmental disabilities to learn about and
grow in their faith. The program helps these individuals
become a part of our community. A representative from
SPRED will be available after Mass at the church entrances, to
answer any questions you might have.
and job search strategies. From 8 pm to 8:30 pm, we will give
perspectives on what HR managers look for in resumes and
interviews, and answer your questions about job searching. All
are welcome to attend. This is a free seminar.
Dear Fr. Kurt and the People of St. Patrick,
Thank you for your recent letter with its
expression of concern for my health. Thank
you for taking the time to write; the outpouring
of support is a great encouragement to me at
this difficult and uncertain time. Please remember me at
Mass, along with all those who are being treated for
cancer. Thank you as well for your promise of prayers
for Msgr. John Canary.
You and your parishioners will have a place in my own
prayers. May the Lord bless you and keep you in His
care.
Fraternally yours in Christ,
Do you enjoy the HEAT?
THANK YOU
The St. Alphonsus-St.
Patrick School community
would like to thank the
parishioners and many
families who support Market Day. This past
year we were able to raise over $6,308 and over
$102,123 during our partnership with Market
Day. The money we raised helped to fund buses
for field trips, technology, and an assembly. We
appreciate your continuous support of our school.
Know that we keep all of you in our prayers.
Operation Rice Bowl Thanks
Our parish and RE children collected over
$600 for Operation Rice Bowl during this
past Lenten season. This is a great
example of how much good we can do
when we work together. Every little bit of
change added up to a large amount of
needed funds for a great cause. Thank you for your
generosity.
Dear Parishioners of St. Patrick Church,
Thank you for the $775.00 donation as well as the
gifts of food given to the Open Pantry at Bethany
Your contribution enables us to replenish the pantry
vouchers to our clients so that they may purchase
fresh food from the grocery store.
