So KUDOS to John Hayes and the Men’s Club for providing the set-up, clean-up, and take down of theParish Hall; to Tammy Hayes, Betty Slad and their “band of sisters: who helped to decorate our hall and tocoordinate all the food; to Neil Windt and our Music Ministry; to Dale Hennebry; and to Linda O’Connor for theirhelp with the liturgy and all the behind-the-scenes work that needed to get done. My thanks to Sue Maciulis andJim Prew for being our greeters at Mass. Please know I am deeply indebted to each and every one of you! This Saturday, October 23rd, at the 5:00pm Mass, I welcome our 8 th grade Confirmation class, their family, friends and teachers. Together we will ask God to bless them and guide them on their journey to making thisimportant sacrament in their lives.Last Sunday, I had a wonderful time with the young people from our Teen Group here in Lemont. Theyranged in age from freshmen to seniors in high school. I was very impressed with each and every one of them.Together we talked about our lives, who and what is important to us, our dreams and hopes, the challenges aboutbeing a young person today, and things we like to do for fun. We ate some pizza and we prayed. Again, I was veryimpressed by the respectfulness, wisdom, integrity, and honesty of these young men and women. I am deeplygrateful for the wonderful leadership Mike Lundberg provides for this tri-parish group. I would like to come backand visit with you again some time.Just a couple of things about next weekend, October 30th and 31st. Happy Halloween to all our youngpeople. Enjoy the day and please be safe! Secondly, representatives from our Men’s Group here at St. Patrick willbe speaking at all the Masses encouraging other men of the parish to join. You will be amazed, as I have been, todiscover all they do and accomplish. Also, please remember that after the 10:00am Mass and 12 Noon Mass nextweekend, we will be offering flu shots for all those interested. On Saturday, November 13 th at the 5:00pm Mass, Monsignor John Canary, a friend and spiritual mentor, and Vicar General of the Archdiocese, will be the Presider. At this liturgy, we will be honoring Walter McCarthyby presenting him with the Christifideles Award. I hope you might be able to join us.Finally, as you may have heard last week, Bishop Gustavo, the local Bishop of our area and a good friendto St. Patrick, was named the new Archbishop of San Antonio, Texas. Our loss is San Antonio’s gain! Please keepthe new Archbishop in your hearts and prayers. The people of the Archdiocese will have an opportunity to saygood-bye to him at special events planned in early November. I’ll keep you updated. Have a good week!Peace,Fr. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGOOctober 24, 2010Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,The annual celebration of World Mission Sunday is a reminder to us of the universality of the Church andthe scope of her mission. The bishops gathered at the Second Vatican Council stressed the importance of missionfor fulfilling God's plan for the salvation of all humanity. God intends that all people live in communion withhim; if this is to happen, we must listen to God’s call to become missionary disciples. All of our parishes are to behomes and schools where we are formed through prayer, the celebration of the liturgy, and works of charity andongoing outreach through which we make Christ known. These dimensions of Catholic life make us grow in lovewith the One who is love, Christ the Lord.Mission is born out of a loving relationship with Christ. As we grow in this relationship, our union withhim creates a deep missionary spirit, and our witness to others becomes more forceful. When we live in communion with the Lord, we offer the world an invitation to experience the mystery oflife in Christ. Only in union with Christ can our hearts be transformed by love for all peoples loved by Christhimself. Then zeal for the spread of the Gospel grows in our hearts and we become authentic missionarydisciples. We can never be content with simply maintaining the life of our parishes. We must always be ready toreach beyond ourselves and our needs and be concerned with spreading the Good News of God's love for peopleof every nation and culture. This is what it means to be Catholic. As we celebrate World Mission Sunday, I invite you to join me in renewing our commitment to missionas parishes, families and individuals, and in uniting these efforts with those of this archdiocese and of the wholeChurch. I ask you to pray for the work of the Pontifical Mission Societies and missionaries throughout the world,to give them your support and take seriously your own baptismal call to mission. Let us ask the Lord to open thehearts of people everywhere to receive the gift of faith in the Lord Jesus and make all the Church's missionarywork fruitful. Thank you. May God bless you and those you love.Sincerely yours in Christ,Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I.Archbishop of Chicago
