The advice of Detective Sergeant Richard Crabtree of the Drugs and Vice Enforcement Unit has
enhanced my knowledge and vision in my real estate profession, and I believe York Regional Police is
among the most efficient in the Province of Ontario.

2007 highlights included an investigation into the theft
of two shipping containers of imported granite from
a Vaughan business. A successful investigation by the
unit led to the arrest of two individuals, one a known
distributor of stolen cargo in the GTA, and the
recovery of the granite valued at $125,000.
CENTRAL FRAUD BUREAU
The 23 members of the Central Fraud Bureau
investigate complex fraud occurrences that fall outside
the mandate of District-based fraud investigators. A
2007 highlight for the bureau was the discovery of a
large debit card manufacturing lab. The execution of a
search warrant led to the seizure of 3,000 forged debit
cards in various stages of manufacture, along with
hundreds of stolen point-of-sale terminals that were
in the process of having skimming devices installed in
them. Approximately $200,000 in forgery equipment,
thermal printers, embossers and computers were also
seized.
FORENSIC IDENTIFICATION BUREAU
The Forensic Identification Bureau’s 33 members
document, collect and preserve forensic evidence
from crime scenes utilizing digital imaging,
videotaping, latent print examination, tool mark
examination and footwear identification technologies.
In 2007, the bureau investigated 6,280 incidents,
fingerprinted 8,687 individuals and enforced 167
Judges Orders for DNA. The Forensic Identification
Bureau also includes the Archaeological Forensic
Recovery Team, the Technology Crimes Unit and the
Video Support Services Unit.
