Princess Beatrice got into
the Christmas spirit last
week as she and a host of
celebrities attended the starstudded
opening of the Winter
Wonderland extravaganza in
London’s Hyde Park.
The 26-year-old wrapped up
warm (left) for the evening’s
fun and games, which included
a twirl in a teacup ride with
friends (above).
Other famous faces getting
festive were Prince Harry’s ex
Chelsy Davy, Countdown star
Rachel Riley and her Strictly
Come Dancing beau Pasha
Kovalev, diving ace Tom Daley
and socialite Tara Palmer-
Tomkinson, all eager for the
chance to enjoy some early
festive fun.
Making it a family affair,
director Tim Burton and his
wife, actress Helena Bonham
Carter, brought their children
Nell and Tim, former pop star
Sinitta was with her children
Zac and Magdalena, while
model Jodie Kidd brought son
Indio and husband David
Blakeley. Carousels, a helterskelter,
fun-houses and a toy
train were all on hand to keep
little ones entertained, with
white-knuckle roller-coasters
for older thrill-seekers.
Shopping for gifts in the
Bavarian Christmas market,
circus shows in a giant big top
and the UK’s largest ice rink
are just a few of the attractions
at the annual festival, which
runs until 4 January.

They might be a trio now, but that doesn’t
mean Take That can’t still deliver an
electrifying performance – just ask the crowds
that gathered in London’s Regent Street to
watch Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard
Donald switch on the Christmas lights (left). It
only took a minute to push the button and start
the Christmas countdown in one of the capital’s
busiest shopping streets, but the band still
managed to Shine – helped just a little by
thousands of twinkling bulbs.
“Love a light switch on!” Gary tweeted before
the event. “On my way to Regent Street! Feeling
Christmassy already.”
Their appearance wasn’t the only highlight of
the night. Shoppers were also treated to fireworks
and performances by Union J and Jessie Ware.
Heart DJs Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston
hosted the event with guests including fellow DJ
Toby Anstis and Strictly Come Dancing’s Mark
Wright. “I love it; it’s just something, for me, that
kicks off Christmas,” Emma said.
Mark, still dancing on air after his highscoring
charleston on Strictly the previous
evening, was also happy to help get the festive
party started. “Regent Street is so special at
Christmas,” he said. “It’s a lovely street. It’s the
perfect place to turn on the lights.”
