The Inside Story
DOLCE & GABBANA
UNVEIL NEW LONDON BRANCHES
Putting their own spin on
one of the season’s hottest
trends, design duo Domenico
Dolce and Stefano Gabbana
produced some faux fir of
their own with their latest
Christmas tree for Claridge’s.
Glamorous guests gathered
at the central London hotel to
see the pair’s festive design
(inset, below left), which
features hand-blown glass
spheres illustrating famous
global landmarks.
“Christmas is the happiest
time of the year for children
and we want to celebrate it
with a tree that brings together
all the different cultures from
around the world,” the fashion
favourites said in a statement.
Among those admiring the
display, which also includes
animatronic deer, rabbits and
squirrels amid 9,000 fairy lights,
was Kylie Minogue. Looking
spruce in a red and white D&G
dress (left), the singer was
joined by Amber Le Bon and
Daisy Lowe (below left), plus
Strictly Come Dancing star Pixie
Lott and her boyfriend Oliver
Cheshire (below).
WAYNE
ROONEY
SLEEPY SONS
WATCH HIM EARN
A NIGHT CAP
He was a
strong
contender for
Man of the
Match during
last week’s Euro
2016 qualifier
against Slovenia
at Wembley, and
Wayne Rooney
was definitely the
daddy on the
pitch – at least
in the eyes of his
biggest (and
smallest) fans.
The England
captain was
joined by his two
sons during a
triumphant
appearance in
which he was
also presented
with a “golden
cap”: by football
legend Sir
Bobby Charlton, in recognition of his
100th cap for the national squad.
Sharing Wayne’s glory were Klay,
two, and six-year-old Kai, who marked
the occasion by wearing an England
shirt emblazoned with the words
“Daddy 100” (above right). While
mum Coleen watched from the VIP
box, capturing the action on her
cameraphone, the pair also helped
their dad lead the home team out
(left) ahead of their 3-1 victory.
Calling it a “brilliant day”, Wayne
tweeted: “Great to win today and
proud to have reached 100 caps.
Amazing to walk out with my sons.
Thanks to all the fans for the support.”
BARBRA WINDSOR
JUST WHAT THE DOCTORATE ORDERED
It was a case of Carry On Doctor for
Barbara Windsor when the actress
was awarded an honorary doctorate.
The former EastEnders star, 77, picked
up her accolade last week from the
University of East London at a
ceremony at the capital’s O2 Arena,
supported by her husband Scott
Mitchell (left).
“This is a great honour for me
because I have such
a deep connection
with the East End,”
said Barbra. “Not
only was it the place
I was born, but it
has played a huge
part in my career
and continues to
inspire me. I know
if my mother was
alive today she
would be so proud
of me and say,
‘That’s my girl.’”
And the star, who
played Peggy
Mitchell in the
BBC1 soap, could
yet return to Albert
Square. “I think
EastEnders is going
along okay
without me,” she
said. “But that’s
not to say the
wonderful
guv’nor will not
talk me into it.
He’ll take me for a
pie and mash
somewhere and talk
me into it. I love it
so much!”
