The Arts and Letters Club was the scene of a dinner on the<br />

evening of September 28th, when members of students 1 council and representatives<br />

of city and district secondary schools met with Sir Ernest MacMillan<br />

to discuss symphony concerts for the coming season, which will be under the<br />

direction of Sir Ernest.<br />

On October 4th the Central Drama League opened its season<br />

with a meeting in the Arts and Letters Club; Esther Wilson of Glasgow gave<br />

an interesting talk on the psychology of gesture • *•• Another meeting at<br />

the Club by an outside organization was that held by the Association of<br />

Medical Illustrators, sponsored by Dr* Harry Ebbs*<br />

"Saints Alive", a musical comedy by Keith MacMillan and<br />

Ronald Bryden, was produced on March 17-22 in Hart House Theatre for the<br />

Centenary under the auspices of Convocation*<br />

PERSONAL<br />

Prof« Charles E. Hendry, Acting Director of the School of<br />

Social Work of the University of Toronto during the absence on sick leave<br />

of Prof • H t M» Cassidy, has had a busy summer* In July he visited (via<br />

B.O t A*C*) Europe and England, taking in the Festival of Britain. In August<br />

he repaired to Cape Cod, Mass., where he completed the manuscript of his<br />

forthcoming new book in which he gives the result of his study of conditions<br />

in Germany and Western Europe made a year ago on an assignment by the UN.<br />

On September 29th he gavre an entertaining broadcast over C*B*C* of his impressions<br />

in brief of Europe and England during his recent visit*<br />

John Coulter, after spending the summer in Canada, sailed<br />

for Eiigland from New York on October 8th to further the production of his<br />

plays• He expects t o be absent for at least a year*<br />

Among the many who attended the initial Monthly Dinner<br />

on the 29th ult*, were some veteran members especially welcomed by the President*<br />

M Syd fl Howard, a founder-member, came in from his home in Terra Cotta,<br />

Qnt*, to join in the festivities and forgather with old friends* Many older<br />

members will remember Syd ! s interesting talk at the Club years ago on Canadian<br />

Lumbermen ! s s ongs•
