STAR PLAYER | STAR SEARCH
YOUNGSTERS TO VIE FOR COCA-COLA
STAR SEARCH AWARD
For the 2008 season the
SANFL will again offer the
Coca-Cola Star Search Award.
Established in 2007, the
award is designed to
recognise talented
youngsters making their
mark in League ranks, and is
open to all players aged 21
or under (as at January 1,
2008) who have not played
more than eight senior
SANFL matches leading into
the season.
AFL rookies are eligible for
the award unless promoted to
the senior list of their club,
while players who are
suspended by the tribunal
during the 2008 season are
ineligible to win.
Port Adelaide Magpies
livewire Steven Summerton
was last season’s inaugural
winner, edging out other
exciting youngsters Daniel
Havelberg (Central) and Nick
Salter (Eagles).
Clubs will nominate a player
at the completion of every
home-and-away game, with a
SANFL review panel then
selecting the Coca-Cola Star
Search Award nominee for
that particular round.
The SANFL review panel
will consist of Glen Rosser
(General Manager – State
League Competition), David
Hutton (General Manager –
Game Development), Daniel
Thomas (SANFL Football
Services Manager) and
Brenton Phillips (SANFL
Talent Manager).
On completion of the minor
round, the SANFL review
panel will then select one
young player from the group
of nominees to receive
the Coca-Cola Star Search
Award and a $2000
winner’s purse.
A Coca-Cola representative
will present the award at the
Magarey Medal Presentation
Dinner.
Be Active Star Player
of the Year & R.O.
Shearman Medal
The ‘be active’ Star Player of
the Year & R.O. Shearman
Medal will again be awarded
in 2008 to acknowledge the
League’s best player.
Judged by members of the
SANFL’s 200 Club on a 5-4-3-
2-1 basis for every minor
round match, the award carries
with it a $3000 first prize.
Once again this year, three
‘Mystery Rounds’ have been
allocated where voting results
will be kept secret until the
end of the season.
Voting begins this weekend,
