General
Originally the vessel was built in 1982 by the East-German VEB Schiffswerft
Neptun as a navy supply vessel. In 1998 the vessel was lengthened and converted
into a general cargo vessel.
In 2002 the vessel was purchased by the Dutch company Schotsman B.V. at
Terneuzen and converted to an aggregate dredger by Shipyard Boer, named
'Schotsman'.
The dredging equipment installed consists of a single trailing suction pipe
arrangement at starboard side at main deck level, a static sieve mounted on
the fore deck connected to a closed launder with four hydraulically operated
doors to load the hopper during trailing and two barge loading pipes mounted
on main deck level at port side.
The vessel is equipped with four hydraulically operated bottom doors and a
drainage system for de-watering the load of sand in case of unloading by
shore based grab cranes.
Dry cargo ship
Aggregate dredger
For the conversion the yard started with
removing all redundant parts from the
ship including the cargo hold hatches
complete with coaming and mid cross
beam, unloading excavator crane with
movable platform wagon and four main
generator sets from a former generator
room.
VER scope of work
The calculations necessary for intact stability, damage stability and strength are performed
by VER as well as the engineering of the new hopper space , the foundations
for dredge pumps with engines, dredge and jet pump piping, contra foundations for
dredging equipment etc.
Classification
The 'Schotsman' is certified by the Netherlands Maritime Authorities and has the Det
