30 500 m 3trailing suctionhopper dredgerCHARLESDARWINGeneralIn July 2007, Jan de Nul Group and La Naval Shipyard in Bilbao, Spain, signed anagreement for the construction of a 30 500 m 3 hopper dredger. The new vessel is specially designed for operation in shallow or confined waters, having a design draught of 11 m and a length of only 161.5 m. In the design muchattention has been given to efficient use of the installed power, resulting in low fuelconsumption and lower emissions. Two suction pipes, diameter 1 200 mm, equippedwith submerged dredge pumps of each 3 400 kW are installed. Double walledelectrically driven shore discharging dredge pumps with a total power of 15 000 kWwill enable discharging the load at a high rate, over long distances.Principal DimensionsLength over allLength between perpendicularsBreadth, mouldedDraught, internationalDredging draughtHopper capacityDeadweight183.20161.5040.0010.0013.0030 50054 141mmmmmm 3tonMaximum dredging depthSuction pipe diameterSpeedAccommodation93.501 20016.0042mmmknpMachineryPump power (trailing)Pump power (discharging)Propulsion powerTotal installed diesel power2x 3 40015 0002x 10 80023 600kWkWkWkWVuyk Engineering Rotterdam B.V.Consultants, Naval architects, Marine engineersP.O.
