It's Time for <strong>Corporate</strong> <strong>Responsibility</strong><br />

Participating in Public Policymaking<br />

In participating public policymaking, we at <strong>Acer</strong> speak from our<br />

own business experience and play a part in Taiwan, R.O.C's<br />

public policymaking process – where <strong>Acer</strong> is headquartered – in<br />

hopes of creating a business environment conducive to promoting<br />

sustainable development and CSR implementation.<br />

<strong>Acer</strong> participated in the following three sustainability-driven<br />

policymaking enactments in <strong>2009</strong>:<br />

1. <strong>Corporate</strong> Social <strong>Responsibility</strong> and Best Practice Principles at<br />

the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE)<br />

Supported by BCSD-Taiwan and CSR Taiwan, Taiwan Stock<br />

Exchange (TWSE) and GreTai Securities Market (GTSM)<br />

drafted the "<strong>Corporate</strong> Social <strong>Responsibility</strong> and Best Practice<br />

Principles for TWSE/GTSM-Listed Companies" in <strong>2009</strong>. The<br />

Principles, as a soft law, is to be applied for promoting the<br />

implementation of CSR and reporting accordingly. As the board<br />

director of BCSD-Taiwan, <strong>Acer</strong> was engaged directly by BCSD-<br />

Taiwan in the consultation process for drafting the Principles.<br />

The engagement period lasted from March to April of <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

2. The Taiwan Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Act<br />

Having a legal basis for GHG reduction helps motivate<br />

the community to take on necessary reduction measures<br />

collectively. We at <strong>Acer</strong> work with BCSD-Taiwan and Taiwan<br />

<strong>Corporate</strong> Sustainability Forum (TCSF) – an organization<br />

specializing in the sharing of CSR practices – to engage the<br />

legislative and administrative departments in further enriching<br />

the GHG Reduction Act under the principles of fairness and<br />

shared responsibility. The engagement period lasted between<br />

January and May, <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

3. Carbon Footprint and Carbon Emission Label<br />

Carbon footprint and carbon emission labeling for notebooks<br />

continue to be hampered by many subjective factors due to<br />

extreme complexity in electronic components assembling.<br />

In <strong>2009</strong>, <strong>Acer</strong> offered its own management experience in the<br />

area via both direct and indirect communication channels<br />

to government agencies. In the future, we at <strong>Acer</strong> are also<br />

considering taking part in CSR-related criteria institution or tests<br />

spearheaded by international agencies.<br />

• Develop internal corporate responsibility sharing platform<br />

in <strong>Acer</strong>.<br />

• Held <strong>Acer</strong> CSR Forum and communicate with international<br />

stakeholders continually.<br />
