Guide of Good Envirmental Practices<br />

With a view to lessening environmental impact caused<br />

by the workspace and offices, <strong>Acer</strong> Iberia (consists of<br />

the Spanish and Portuguese regions) Guide of Good<br />

Environmental Practices was instituted for effective<br />

office environment management, characterized by the<br />

3R principle: reduce, reuse, and recycle, in a move<br />

to promote eco-friendly workspace. Two guidebooks<br />

and themed posters were designed for offices and<br />

maintenance centers, while environmental-friendly<br />

driving instructions were imparted to encourage <strong>Acer</strong><br />

staff to begin conscientious environmental practices in<br />

life's small details.<br />

Eco Trainings in <strong>Acer</strong> Russia<br />

Employee Health and Safety<br />

We credits its successes to all the committed, hardworking staff at<br />

the <strong>Acer</strong> family; it's therefore responsible for ensuring their health<br />

and safety at the workplace. Free physicals were performed on all<br />

staff in <strong>Acer</strong> Taiwan, while weight loss classes were created, and<br />

outdoor activities arranged to raise health management awareness<br />

among the employees. We at <strong>Acer</strong> also provide the staff with a<br />

more healthful, safer workplace by implementing OHSAS 18001<br />

systems.<br />

Fitness and health lectures were hosted as well, such as 20-plus<br />

lectures and fitness programs in Taiwan over the course of <strong>2009</strong>.<br />

<strong>Acer</strong> Middle East, on the other hand, organized many workshops<br />

on physical and emotional health; <strong>Acer</strong> Canada focused its<br />

programs on ergonomics and defensive driving.<br />

Severe Disease and Epidemic Controls<br />

Influenza A (H1N1) was on the rampage in <strong>2009</strong> across the<br />

world; disease control and prevention campaigns were therefore<br />

reinforced, health status of the employees were monitored closely<br />

during the height of the endemic; <strong>Acer</strong> also instituted at-home work<br />

programs and self-administered health management guidelines.<br />

Suggestions and health protection reminders were provided in<br />

accordance with announcements and alerts released by the<br />

Centers for Disease Control.<br />

Eco training courses were imparted to office staff in<br />

<strong>Acer</strong> Russia to enhance their understanding in Russia's<br />

– and the world's - ecological and environmental status<br />

quo.<br />

Employee Engagement<br />

<strong>Acer</strong> values input and opinions of the staff and offers an unobstructed<br />

communication conduit for them to sound off. Employees can<br />

offer their suggestions via the logistics support line, face-to-face<br />

meetings, counseling, the <strong>Acer</strong> Family, Gardener's Meeting and<br />

Online Staff Opinion Survey. Thanks to these efforts, there were<br />

no company operational losses as a result of labor disputes this<br />

past year. This year, some of the suggestions by the staff are listed<br />

as follows:<br />

Major Resolutions Reached During the <strong>2009</strong><br />

Gardener's Meeting (in Taiwan region):<br />

Incentive packages were instituted to encourage employees<br />

to take online English lessons, a 2-day volunteer leave, and to<br />

inspire the staff to participate in volunteering (such as the Summer<br />

Deaflympics <strong>2009</strong>, plus community outreach activities), physicals<br />

and fitness improvement programs, renovation of office facilities,<br />

and improvement on health and safety at workplace.<br />
