OBJECTIVES:
To inform the Operations Committee of the current status of key Operations projects scheduled
for completion in FY2013.
BACKGROUND:
Engineering & New Systems Development (E&NSD) is currently managing or assisting in the
execution of approximately 35 projects throughout the bus and rail systems facilities. Most of
these projects require close coordination with various departments throughout the Operations
organization to ensure success.
ANALYSIS:
Following are updates of three key projects that will be completed in FY 2013.
New Freedom Bus Stops
• Scope – Upgrade approximately 200 existing bus stops to make them accessible under
Federal ADA guidelines. There are 125 stops in St. Louis City across 19 Aldermanic Wards
and 75 stops in St. Louis County. This is the third project of this kind. The previous two
projects upgraded a total of 165 stops throughout the system.
• Budget – Overall Project budget is approximately $1,000,000.
• Schedule – Construction contract will advertise soon. Construction is expected to begin in
late summer and be completed before the end of the calendar year.
Scott Transit Plaza
• Scope – In conjunction with the City of St. Louis reconstruction of the grand Bridge, Metro
is reconstructing the Grand MetroLink station and associated transit plaza. Scope includes
the removal of elevators from the platform to the north side of Scott Avenue, construction of
an aesthetically pleasing, well lit plaza area beneath the bridge, including an art installation
and a new 60 spot parking lot.
• Budget – The total project budget is $7.3 million. Current forecasts show the project will be
completed within budget.
• Schedule – Project is somewhat dependent on completion of the bridge, but the current
schedule shows completion in early August.
