Ashen Sea Cucumber
Holothuria fuscocinerea
The ashen sea cucumber, which grows to 25 cm in length, is distinguished by its grayish brown
colour and indistinct spots on its dorsum. Additionally, it possesses a dark brown ring around its
anus and similarly circumscribed ventral tubefeet. It is usually found under rubble on the reef
flat during the day, venturing out only at night, though the figured specimen occurred on the
forereef slope. It readily ejects large translucent Cuvierian tubules when disturbed. A possible
variety of this species is uniformly ashen brown and is found in the same habitat.
