Dr. Helen F. Giles-Gee<br />

is no stranger to <strong>Philadelphia</strong><br />

It was quite a homecom<strong>in</strong>g for Dr. HELEN F. GILES-GEE.<br />

A stand<strong>in</strong>g-room-only crowd at <strong>U<strong>Sciences</strong></strong>’ McNeil Science<br />

and Technology Center was packed with <strong>University</strong> faculty,<br />

staff, and students, as well as honored guests, to welcome<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s 22nd president on March 23, 2012.<br />

Dr. Giles-Gee, who had served as president at Keene State<br />

College <strong>in</strong> Keene, New Hampshire, s<strong>in</strong>ce 2005, spent quite<br />

a bit <strong>of</strong> time <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Delaware Valley, first as a student at<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania for her undergraduate, master’s,<br />

and doctoral degrees and <strong>the</strong>n later as provost at Rowan<br />

<strong>University</strong>. And her connection to <strong>U<strong>Sciences</strong></strong> is even closer<br />

as she took pre-graduate classes at one po<strong>in</strong>t from <strong>the</strong>n-<br />

<strong>Philadelphia</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy and Science.<br />

“I look forward to work<strong>in</strong>g with<br />

[Dr. Giles-Gee] and shap<strong>in</strong>g policies<br />

and tak<strong>in</strong>g new <strong>in</strong>itiatives that will<br />

raise <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong><br />

to <strong>the</strong> position <strong>of</strong> visibility that<br />

it should have not only <strong>in</strong> West<br />

<strong>Philadelphia</strong> but <strong>in</strong> <strong>Philadelphia</strong>,<br />

<strong>the</strong> state, and <strong>the</strong> nation.”<br />
