“Make a Bequest to your School”
Charitable bequests allow the donor to keep and use their assets over their lifetime
while, at the same time, make a very generous contribution to Holy Cross High School.
Bequests are made by Holy Cross alumni and friends who wish to strengthen and
enhance Holy Cross’ educational experience. A bequest may be made by preparing a
new will or by adding a legal document (codicil) that amends your will.
Other things to consider regarding making a bequest:
•Abequest can be stated in many forms, such as a specific dollar amount ($10,000),
a specific asset (a house, farm, or art collection) or a percentage of an estate.
•Adonor can take full advantage of estate tax savings by creating trusts in his/her will.
• Bequests can be made for unrestricted or restricted purposes, such as endowments or
plant renovations. Holy Cross can work with donors in pointing out areas of special need.
• Bequests can be made in memory or honor of a loved one, or the donor can name the
bequest after himself/herself.
• Bequests are revocable—meaning that they can be changed during the lifetime of a donor
donor.
• Alumni and friends considering a bequest to Holy Cross are recommended to obtain
the professional counsel of a lawyer who specializes in probate and estate planning.
Other forms of Planned or Deferred Giving include: Charitable Remainder Trusts,
Charitable Lead Trusts, and making Holy Cross a beneficiary of a Life Insurance Policy.
