Leeds City College Family
August 1st 2011 marked two exciting
developments for Leeds City College as we
merged with Leeds College of Music and the
former Joseph Priestley College.
“Both partnerships aim
to improve learning
opportunities and
provision in the city”
Both partnerships aim to improve learning
opportunities and provision in the city -
strengthening the city’s cultural arts provision, and
bringing benefits to local learners, businesses and
communities in South Leeds.
Former Joseph Priestley College sites are
now Leeds City College centres, with the
Peel Street location known as Joseph
Priestley Campus.
Leeds College of Music joins the Leeds City College
group, in what is an unprecedented move for a
Higher Education institute becoming a wholly owned
subsidiary of a further education college.
Leeds College of Music retains its name, distinctive
brand and purpose built premises in the city’s
Quarry Hill cultural quarter and continues to offer
a broad range of specialist music courses in Higher
and Further Education.
Our Estates Vision
Since the creation of Leeds City College, a key
agenda has been “to improve learning and
teaching facilities to be among the best in the
country.” The College has therefore been striving
towards attaining buildings which are befitting of
the 3rd largest College in the UK.
In 2010, we opened the brand new £35m Keighley
Campus, and this year we have announced further
plans to enhance more of our estates portfolio
with an exciting 10 year property strategy. These
plans will mean the improvement of many of our
campuses, the next phase being the relocation of
our Thomas Danby Campus provision in Summer
2012 to some fantastic new sites.
The new Leeds locations of the FE courses
previously offered at the Thomas Danby Campus
are currently under consideration; as soon as the
new sites are announced, information will be
added to the Leeds City College website. Please
check back regularly for details. We will also
host open events and tours of the fantastic, new
locations as soon as we can.
“We are proud of our
status as a flagship
educational institution
in the UK”
At Leeds City College we are proud of our status
as a flagship educational institution in the UK.
By offering high quality learning environments
which are modern, fit for purpose, and industry
standard, we hope this status will likewise be
reflected in our innovative new campus buildings.

or your mock GCSE grades if you have sat them.
If you are still at school or college your head of
year should be able to help you with this. We will
also ask about any work you have done, paid or
unpaid, and ask you to name a referee.
We will also ask you to complete a Personal
Statement. This is your chance to explain to us
why you are a suitable candidate for your choice of
as you can. This information helps the College
what our students say...
Laura Hancock
HNC in Building Services
Laura is studying for a HNC in Building
Services while in employment and recognises
the benefits involved with following a workbased
route.
Laura says;
“The experiences and knowledge you gather
in the workplace help with college work
and provide real-world applications for the
subjects being studied.”
Kayleigh Butler
Foundation Degree in Animal Health and Welfare
and BSc Hons in Animal Management
Kayleigh found the Foundation Degree in
Animal Health and Welfare difficult to begin
with, but the guidance and support she
received from tutors helped her to find her
feet and encouraged her to progress to the
full BSc Hons in Animal Management.
“the animal centre was
great for hands-on study”
Kayleigh says:
“I stayed on at the college due to the friendly
feeling on the campus. The animal centre
was great for hands-on study on the course
and the tuition fees were also very well priced
compared with University fees.”
Foundation Degree in Wildlife Management
& Conservation
Sarah-Louise took her Foundation Degree
with the aim of turning her passion for
environmental conservation into a successful
academic and professional career.
“the course also helped me
start networking within the
conservation sector”
Sarah says:
“The course fitted nicely around my part
time work and it offered both academic and
practical experience which suits those who
prefer to be hands-on - you don’t usually get
that at university. The tutors were amazing
and always ready to provide help and support
if you asked for it. The course also helped
me start networking within the conservation
sector which will really help me in my future
studies and career.”
