Electrical Installation<br />
NVQ Diploma (Performing Engineering Operations) - Level 2<br />
Duration: 1 year. Also available part-time<br />
location: KC TC<br />
About the Course<br />
This course is suitable for people of any age and<br />
background who wish to develop the skills associated<br />
with electrical installation engineering and have the<br />
aim of employment within the sector. The course has a<br />
practical profile with coverage of the theory aspects of<br />
electrical installation design, construction and testing.<br />
Focus is placed on the growth of work place related<br />
abilities, methodologies and processes.<br />
You will learn about<br />
• Working safely in an engineering environment<br />
• Carrying our engineering activities efficiently<br />
and effectively<br />
• Using and communicating technical information<br />
• Forming and assembling electrical cable enclosures and<br />
support systems<br />
• Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits<br />
• Assembling, wiring and testing electrical panels /<br />
components mounted in enclosures<br />
You will also study Functional Skills in Maths and English,<br />
or resit a GCSE, if required.<br />
You will learn the practicalities of how cabling<br />
enclosures, supports, accessories, wiring systems,<br />
and control equipment are assembled, installed and<br />
tested for electrical safety and operational readiness. In<br />
addition, the course includes knowledge of the current<br />
BS7671 wiring regulations with regards to all aspects<br />
of the design of electrical installation circuits and<br />
testing processes, prior to circuit being made live. The<br />
electrical principles and theories that underpin electrical<br />
installations are also covered within the course.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D including<br />
Mathematics or English, NVQ1 or satisfactory<br />
completion of a Foundation Learning programme with<br />
a minimum of 37 credits (at level 1). In all cases, we<br />
interview you to assess your ability to benefit from the<br />
course<br />
All learners are required to provide their own safety<br />
footwear<br />
Future Opportunities<br />
You may wish to progress to a level 2 Diploma in<br />
electrical and electronics technology programme which<br />
provides additional skills and knowledge and which is<br />
more focused on practical aspects. You could also apply<br />
for an apprenticeship, if you have an employer and you<br />
are working in the electrical industry.<br />
